The Indian government has introduced updates to the passport application process, impacting various groups of citizens. These changes aim to improve security and efficiency for applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Changes in Passport Application Process: Birth Certificate and Privacy Enhancements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, a birth certificate issued<\/a> by the municipal corporation or authorized bodies will be the only accepted proof of date of birth. Those born before this date can still use birth certificates along with other documents such as school leaving certificates, PAN cards, government service records, driving licenses, election ID cards, and LIC policy bonds as valid proof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a bid to enhance privacy, the residential address will no longer be printed on the last page of passports. Instead, a barcode will be added, which immigration officials can scan to access the information, ensuring greater security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Passport Color-Coding System and Removal of Parent Names for Privacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new color-coding system will be implemented to distinguish passports by category. Government officials will receive white passports, diplomats will have red ones, and ordinary citizens will continue to hold blue passports. This will streamline identification for authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the names of parents will no longer appear on the last page of passports, reducing the disclosure of personal information, particularly for those from divided households or single-parent families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expansion of Passport Seva Kendras to Improve Access and Efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To enhance accessibility, the government will expand the Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), increasing the number of centres from 442 to 600 within the next five years. This will improve the application and verification process for citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
