Currently, New York holds the top spot with a 399 km metro line, while Delhi Metro is operating on a 394 km network. With the upcoming 12 km Aerocity to Tughlakabad Golden Line expected to open by December 2025, Delhi will secure the title with a total network length of 401 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1291676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-1.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Milestone Achieved in Phase 4 Expansion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a major step forward, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) successfully completed an underground tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station as part of the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor. The tunnel breakthrough was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestatesman.com\/cities\/delhi-metro-to-have-longest-single-city-network-in-world-by-dec-this-year-manohar-lal-1503405177.html\">celebrated<\/a> at Vasant Kunj metro station, where Minister Manohar Lal confirmed the project is progressing as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly completed tunnel is 1550 metres long and was constructed using a 91-metre-long Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Another parallel tunnel on the same corridor is scheduled to be completed by June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India on Track for the Second-Largest Metro Network<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Manohar Lal highlighted that metro projects are operational or underway in 29 states across India, with the total network now at around 1000 km. This makes India the third-largest metro network in the world, and soon it will take the second spot, just behind China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advanced Technology and Safety in Tunnelling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vasant Kunj tunnel was constructed at an average depth of 23 metres using Earth Pressure Balancing Method (EPBM) technology. Precast concrete tunnel rings were used to line the tunnel, ensuring strength and durability.
