In recent findings it was revealed that the hit-and-run incidents accounted for 38 percent of all the fatal crashes on Mumbai roads in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of these victims, the majority of them were pedestrians with 54 percent, as per a recent report<\/a> published by the city traffic police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alarming Two Wheeler, Three Wheeler & Pedestrians<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While quoting the data on Sunday, the official said that the occupants of the two and three-wheeler vehicles and pedestrians were the majority of the victims in the road crash deaths here in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The financial capital of India reported 374 deaths in 351 road crashes in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good part is that this is a 39 percent decrease since 2015 as highlighted in the report which comprised an in-depth analysis of the accidents data of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, the report noted that among those deaths, two and three-wheeler occupants comprised 48 per cent and pedestrians 40 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is noteworthy here that this report was recently published by the Mumbai Traffic Police in association with the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighted Accident Prone Areas In Mumbai<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving ahead, the data shared in this report revealed that the males continued to account for most of the deaths at 82 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They come under the 20-39 years age group making up the largest number of fatalities among the males at 47 percent, as per the data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides this, most of the motorcyclists who died in road accidents were in the 20-29 years age group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that the hit-and-run incidents caused 38 per cent of all the fatal crashes, and the majority of victims, 54 per cent, were pedestrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to this data, most of the pedestrian deaths occurred at the intersection of the Sion-Panvel Highway, Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road, and Worli sea face junction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that the intersection of the Western Express Highway , Sion-Bandra Link Road and Baiganwadi signal junction witnessed most of the deaths and injuries, according to the officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a per kilometre analysis, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marg and Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road registered the most deaths and injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This data indicates that there were 10 deaths per kilometre in 2023 on those roads which in itself is quite alarming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides this, the report also suggested measures like reducing speed limits, enhancing enforcement of clasped motorcycle helmets, seat belts, creating more walkable streets, safer pedestrian and cycle infrastructure in order to keep a check on such incidents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
