The <strong>increase in tolled stretches<\/strong> has led to growing dissatisfaction among commuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Modernization with GNSS-Based Tolling<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The government is working on implementing a <strong>Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based toll collection system<\/strong>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/industry\/govt-working-on-uniform-toll-policy-to-provide-relief-to-commuters-on-national-highways-gadkari\/117903113#:~:text=%22We%20are%20working%20on%20a,an%20interview%2C%20without%20elaborating%20further.&amp;text=Total%20toll%20collection%20in%20India,27%2C503%20crore%20in%202019%2D20.\">aims<\/a> to introduce <strong>barrier-free tolling<\/strong> and streamline charges for <strong>seamless travel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Highway Infrastructure and Construction Progress<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Gadkari asserted that <strong>India\u2019s highway infrastructure now matches that of the United States<\/strong>. The ministry has constructed <strong>7,000 km of highways<\/strong> in the current fiscal year, with <strong>faster progress expected in February and March<\/strong>. The peak construction rate of <strong>37 km per day<\/strong> was achieved in 2020-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cabinet Approval Needed for New Projects<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the <strong>Bharatmala Pariyojana<\/strong>, the ministry previously had the authority to approve <strong>projects up to \u20b93,000 crore<\/strong>. However, fresh approvals now require <strong>Cabinet clearance for projects over \u20b91,000 crore<\/strong>.
