WhatsApp Pay will continue adhering to UPI guidelines and circulars for Third-Party Application Providers (TPAPs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Broader UPI Context<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NPCI, under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Indian Banks&#8217; Association (IBA), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/business\/whatsapp-pay-gets-npci-nod-for-nationwide-upi-user-expansion-101735651390335.html\">oversees<\/a> UPI\u2014a critical retail payment framework in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent updates in the UPI landscape include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Market Share Caps Delayed<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The central government has postponed the enforcement of market share caps for UPI transactions to December 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This delay provides relief to dominant players like PhonePe (47.8% market share) and Google Pay (37%), which together processed 13.1 billion transactions in November 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rising Competition<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Competitors in the UPI space include Paytm, Navi, Cred, and Amazon Pay, alongside WhatsApp Pay\u2019s expanding footprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Implications for WhatsApp Pay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The lifting of user limits positions WhatsApp Pay as a strong contender in the Indian UPI market.
