With the inauguration of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Devanahalli, HAL shifted its focus to servicing defence, VIP, and private aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the Master Plan Entails<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The AAI\u2019s master plan focuses on modernizing HAL Airport to cater to the growing demand for air travel. Key features of the revamp include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Passenger Handling Capacity:<\/strong> By 2047, HAL Airport aims to accommodate 40 lakh passengers annually. During peak hours, it can manage up to 2,500 passengers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Infrastructure Development:<\/strong> A six-story multi-level car parking facility with a 500-vehicle capacity will be built. The road in front of the terminal will be widened from two to four lanes for better traffic flow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Runway and Aircraft Parking:<\/strong> The existing 3,306-meter runway will remain unchanged. The airport already has 30 aircraft parking spots, ensuring smooth operations for both civilian and regional flights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Addressing Bengaluru\u2019s Growing Needs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As Bengaluru expands, the demand for additional air travel facilities continues to rise. HAL Airport\u2019s reopening will complement KIA\u2019s operations, alleviating air traffic congestion. Moreover, the airport\u2019s potential role in the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN) will boost connectivity to smaller cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timeline and Future Prospects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The exclusivity agreement with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) prevents other airports from commercial operations within a 150-km radius until May 24, 2033.
