India’s first dedicated railway test track is under construction in Rajasthan, aimed at providing a specialized facility for testing various types of rolling stock, from high-speed to metro trains. This 60 km track, developed by the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO), features curves and loops to simulate real-world conditions. The track is projected to be completed by December 2025, with a total cost of Rs 820 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design for Comprehensive Testing of Speed and Stability<\/strong>
The test track has been constructed with both low- and high-speed curves, enabling trials at varying speeds<\/a>. With this design, the track allows trains to maintain speed even on curved sections, essential for evaluating bullet trains and high-speed rolling stock, which can reach up to 230 kmph. The project involves constructing bridges and using innovative materials to withstand vibration, such as stainless steel and heavy RCC boxes to prevent rust in the alkaline Sambhar Lake environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High-Speed, Semi-High-Speed, and Metro Train Testing<\/strong>
The track is built to support testing for various train categories, including high-speed, semi-high-speed, and metro trains. The main line spans 23 km, while additional loops facilitate specialized tests: a 13 km high-speed loop at Gudha, a 3 km rapid test loop at Nawa, and a 20 km curve testing loop at Mithadi. These features will enable comprehensive assessments of train stability, vibration levels, and safety under diverse conditions, including varying track surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boost to Rail Safety and International Collaboration Potential<\/strong>
This track addresses India\u2019s need for a dedicated testing line, reducing the need to alter schedules on existing lines. The RDSO will monitor testing, ensuring that trains meet safety standards before commercial deployment. The new facility not only promises increased efficiency in rail testing but also opens avenues for neighboring countries to test their trains on this track, potentially expanding India’s role in regional rail advancements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving Toward Modern Railway Infrastructure<\/strong>
The Rajasthan test track highlights Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing rail safety and operational efficiency.
