How HTMS Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

HTMS has been designed to monitor the speed of vehicles, detect unsafe lane changes, and automatically impose fines on violators. These high-end cameras provide real-time data, helping authorities take swift action against reckless drivers. Speed limit signs have also been placed strategically along the expressway to remind drivers of the permitted speeds on various stretches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enforcement Through Technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The system’s primary focus is on detecting speeding vehicles, which are a major cause of accidents on the expressway. According to Rahul Vasaikar, superintending engineer at MSRDC, the cameras have already been installed, and trial runs are underway. Once fully operational, HTMS will not only monitor speeding but also lane-cutting, which often leads to dangerous situations on the expressway’s mix of straight roads, ghats, and tunnels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Step Toward Safer Highways<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Pune-Mumbai expressway, known for its scenic views and busy traffic, has long faced challenges with accidents, especially in areas like the ghat sections. HTMS aims to address these issues by providing authorities with accurate data and enabling them to take proactive measures to improve road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As trial runs continue, the state transport department is preparing to fully implement the system, making it easier to penalize drivers violating traffic rules and, ultimately, making the expressway safer for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
