Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/india\/story\/railways-re-appoint-retired-employees-under-65-overcome-staff-shortage-2619664-2024-10-19\">appointments<\/a> will initially last for <strong>two years<\/strong>, with the possibility of extensions based on their performance. This approach is designed to leverage the experience of former employees to address critical staffing needs within the railway network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Managers across all zonal railways have been authorized to reappoint these retirees. To qualify, applicants must meet key criteria, including a <strong>good performance record<\/strong> from their last five years of service and <strong>medical fitness<\/strong>. Furthermore, candidates should not have any pending vigilance or departmental action cases against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Compensation and Benefits<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The reappointed employees will receive a monthly payment that is equivalent to their <strong>last drawn salary<\/strong>, minus their basic pension. While they will be eligible for <strong>travel allowances<\/strong> for official duties, they will not receive any additional increments or benefits beyond this payment structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move comes in response to growing concerns over the operational challenges posed by understaffing in the Indian Railways. For instance, the <strong>North-Western Railway<\/strong> alone has <strong>10,000 vacant positions<\/strong>, contributing to various logistical and safety issues, including increased train accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Addressing Staffing Shortages<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>By bringing back experienced personnel, the Railway Board aims to mitigate these challenges and ensure smoother operations, especially in <strong>supervisory roles<\/strong> and other critical positions.
