{"id":1285222,"date":"2024-09-13T09:55:57","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T04:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1285222"},"modified":"2024-09-13T09:56:16","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T04:26:16","slug":"1-crore-spammers-blocked-with-citizen-powered-govt-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/1-crore-spammers-blocked-with-citizen-powered-govt-app\/","title":{"rendered":"1 Crore Spammers Blocked With Citizen-Powered Govt App"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During the time when fraud calls and messages continue to affect our lives, the telecom department seems to have a crackdown on fraud calls and messages.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Untitled-design-13-2-1.jpeg\" alt=\"1 Crore Spammers Blocked With Citizen-Powered Govt App\" class=\"wp-image-1285230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Untitled-design-13-2-1.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Untitled-design-13-2-1-300x140.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Untitled-design-13-2-1-768x357.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DoT Deactivating Fraud Numbers<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the help of Sanchar Saathi portal \u2013 that enables citizens to report suspicious numbers \u2013 has disconnected over 3.5 lakh fraud numbers in the last 15 days and more than \u2018one crore fraud numbers\u2019 till date, said the Department of Telecom (DoT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further DoT said, \u201cHuge 1 crore fraud numbers disconnected via Sanchar Saathi,\u201d in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving ahead, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) has also <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/technology\/tech-news\/telecom-departments-crackdown-continues-deactivates-3-5-lakh-plus-mobile-connections-in-last-15-days\/articleshow\/113260441.cms\">directed<\/a> telecom operators to disconnect and blacklist entities using bulk connections for spam calls, including robocalls and pre-recorded calls in order to control the menace of spam calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry noted, \u201cIn the last fortnight over 3.5 lakh such numbers have been disconnected and 50 entities have been blacklisted. In addition, around 3.5 Lakh unused\/ unverified SMS headers and 12 Lakh content templates are blocked.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further communicating, \u201cThe DoT launched a citizen centric platform, Sanchar Saathi (https:\/\/sancharsaathi.gov.in), to fight cyber fraud, enabling citizens to report suspicious calls and messages. Till date more than one crore fraudulent mobile connections have been disconnected with the help of Sancharsaathi. Further, 2.27 lakh mobile handsets have been blocked for involvement in cybercrime \/financial frauds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior&nbsp; to this, Center issued directions to Telecom Service Providers(TSPs) like Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea to block incoming international spoofed calls during May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have an interesting revelation that these calls which&nbsp; appear to have originated within India but in reality are made by cyber-criminals from abroad by manipulating the calling line identity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving ahead in this development, DoT and the TSPs informed that they have developed a system to identify and block incoming international spoofed calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tightened Rules to Improve Network Performance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that the benchmarks for key parameters like network availability, call drop rates, and packet drop rates are to be gradually tightened to ensure improvement in the network performance, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TRAI has released its revised regulations, \u2018The Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wirelines and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024 (06 of 2024)\u2019 in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These regulations will be effective from October 1.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monthly monitoring of the Quality of Service performance of mobile service will be started instead of a quarterly basis from 1st April next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the time when fraud calls and messages continue to affect our lives, the telecom department seems to have a crackdown on fraud calls and messages.\u00a0 DoT Deactivating Fraud Numbers&nbsp;
