As part of its ambitious plan to lead the transition to cleaner energy solutions, Tata Group has invested \u20b9950 crore in its battery manufacturing subsidiary, Agratas. The investment reflects Tata’s focus on bolstering its presence in the new energy sector, supporting the development of sustainable technologies for the automotive industry and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agratas is working to establish itself as a leading player in battery production, catering<\/a> to the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gigafactories in India and the UK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agratas is setting up advanced manufacturing plants both in India and the UK. According to Tata Sons’ 106th annual report, the company plans to construct a 40 GWh gigafactory in the UK and a 20 GWh facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The UK gigafactory, located on the Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater in Somerset, will contribute nearly half of the battery manufacturing capacity required for the UK automotive sector by the early 2030s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In India, the Sanand plant is expected to play a key role in supporting the country’s growing EV ecosystem, providing batteries for two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and energy storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting Tata\u2019s Automotive Ambitions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agratas is initially designing and manufacturing batteries for Tata Group companies, including Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors. The company\u2019s batteries will power both luxury and mass-market electric vehicles, enhancing Tata\u2019s automotive portfolio in the electric mobility space. In the future, Agratas plans to expand its offerings to a wider range of vehicles and energy storage solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collaborations and Community Initiatives in the UK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agratas is also fostering collaborations with local partners in the UK to support the gigafactory\u2019s operations and community engagement. Partnerships with Somerset Council, Bridgwater and Taunton College, and the Gravity Smart Campus are helping to create education and training programs tailored to the needs of the emerging clean energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By involving local communities, Agratas aims to ensure that its projects benefit both the region and the future of energy solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
