She highlighted that for this transition to take place, states must unify and reach a consensus in the GST Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/zzzzzzzzz-1-2.jpg\" alt=\"If States Agree, Govt Can Include Petrol, Diesel Under GST \" class=\"wp-image-1283919\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/zzzzzzzzz-1-2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/zzzzzzzzz-1-2-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/zzzzzzzzz-1-2-768x357.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GST Implementation on Petroleum Products Dependent on GST Council Decision: Sitharaman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sitharaman inform on NDTV Profit in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtvprofit.com\/exclusive\/states-need-to-agree-on-inclusion-of-petrol-diesel-in-gst-says-nirmala-sitharaman-i-ndtv-profit-exclusive?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">exclusive<\/a> interview, &#8220;If they fix the rate and they all come together and decide that GST will include petroleum products, then we can implement it right now.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also said that the provisions important to include petroleum products under GST have already been made and it is up to the GST Council to discuss and make the conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the price of petrol differs from state to state depending on the local incidence of taxation. Still, the states are not prepared to include petroleum products under GST as it could lead to revenue losses for the states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bringing Petrol and Diesel Under GST: A Potential Solution to High Fuel Prices and Taxation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GST is being observed as a solution for the issue of high price of petrol and diesel in the country, as it would end the cascading effect of tax on tax (state VAT being imposed, not just on the price of production but also on the excise duty imposed by the centre on such output).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petroleum products are taxed at close to 60%, with the state obtaining Rs 2.5 lakh crore and the Centre making Rs 2 lakh crore.
