The new driving license rules are all set to be effective from June 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest change as per the new rules would be that the individuals would now be able to take driving tests at private driving training centres instead of government RTOs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Changes in Driving License Regulations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These centres will be permitted to conduct tests and issue certificates for license eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fines for speeding shall remain the same like before and remain between Rs 1000 and Rs 2000. However, if a minor<\/a> is caught driving will face a heavy penalty of Rs 25,000 and in addition to the fine, their vehicle registration will be canceled, and they’ll be ineligible for a license until 25 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With simpler documentation for new licenses, accustomed to the type of vehicle (two-wheeler or four-wheeler), the need for physical checkups at RTOs shall also be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By eliminating as many as 900,000 old government vehicles and implementing stricter car emission regulations, the new rules also target to reduce the pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the new rule, it is mandatory for the private driving schools to have at least 1 acre of land, or 2 acres for four-wheeler training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There shall also be a suitable testing facility in these centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Educational Requirement of Trainer and Driving License Fees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as education is concerned, the trainers are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of 5 years of driving experience, and proficiency in biometrics and IT systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Varying by vehicle type, the training duration for Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) would last 29 hours over 4 weeks, with 8 hours of theory and 21 hours of practical training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, for Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV), the training is 38 hours over 6 weeks, including 8 hours of theory and 31 hours of practical training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will ensure high standards of education and readiness for new drivers attending private training schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as fees is concerned, various fees are outlined for different services related to driving licenses, such as issuing learner’s licenses, driving tests, and international driving permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
