{"id":1281681,"date":"2024-05-16T07:56:10","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T02:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1281681"},"modified":"2024-05-16T07:56:31","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T02:26:31","slug":"intelligent-traffic-system-on-mumbai-pune-expressway-218-ai-powered-cctvs-to-identify-17-types-of-traffic-violation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/intelligent-traffic-system-on-mumbai-pune-expressway-218-ai-powered-cctvs-to-identify-17-types-of-traffic-violation\/","title":{"rendered":"Intelligent Traffic System On Mumbai-Pune Expressway: 218 AI-Powered CCTVs To Identify 17 Types Of Traffic Violation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In order to improve road safety, Maharashtra&#8217;s first Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mypunepulse.com\/maharashtras-first-intelligent-traffic-management-system-installed-on-mumbai-pune-expressway\/\">installed<\/a> on Mumbai-Pune expressway by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ify-23-1.png\" alt=\"Intelligent Traffic System On Mumbai-Pune Expressway: 218 AI-Powered CCTVs To Identify 17 Types Of Traffic Violation\" class=\"wp-image-1281692\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ify-23-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ify-23-1-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/ify-23-1-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maharashtra&#8217;s First ITMS Installed On Mumbai-Pune Expressway<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This system aims to modernize traffic management and improve road safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This expressway has quite a challenging traffic with weekday traffic averaging around 40,000 vehicles and weekend traffic at about 60,000 vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Highway police officials and senior MSRDC officials, the system will be operational by the first week of June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, 39 gantries have been set up along a 95-kilometer segment of the expressway in its initial stage of installation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is housing 218 AI-enabled CCTV cameras designed to identify 17 different types of traffic violations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, there will be Automatic number plate recognition which will be integrated into all cameras and toll booths, hence allowing authorities to issue e-challans efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Big On Road Management &amp; Motorists Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Officials, every entry point to the expressway will feature weigh-in-motion machines for goods carriers, along with weather monitoring systems installed at 11 sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this, all 36 existing emergency vehicles, including towing vans, cranes and ambulances, will be fitted with vehicle tracking systems.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They will also have variable messaging sign boards at 23 different locations that will provide motorists with crucial information such as real-time updates on traffic status, road closures and weather conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cutting-edge technology would improve road management and motorists\u2019 safety in a major way, said Tanaji Chikle, the superintendent of Highway Traffic Police (Panvel), told Hindustan Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding, \u201cAt present, though speed-monitoring CCTVs are installed at select junctions and crossovers on the expressway, motorists often slow down only when they approach these cameras or spot traffic police personnel.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnder ITMS, the live feed of a vehicle that has been found speeding or violating traffic rules continuously will be sent to the toll booth ahead, and a hooter will be sounded off when the vehicle nears it.
