As per a sizzling report by Punekar News, the city of Pune has only two months of water left, which can lead to a severe water crisis, almost similar like Bengaluru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report states that Khadakwasla Project, that has 4 dams, has enough<\/a> water to sustain the demand for next two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that Pune has a shortfall of approximately 2.5 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water, till monsoon starts and the reservoirs are again refilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note here, that Pune derives its water needs from 4 water reservoirs: Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon, which collectively provides 4 TMC of water, mainly for drinking purpose. But if we take into account all this water remaining right now, then the city has only 2 months of water left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per PuneKar News, Water Resources Department under Maharashtra Govt has confirmed this dire situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, 14.1 TMC of water is sanctioned by the Water Resources Department for Pune city, for a year. But due to berserk urbanization and unstopped population, Pune city consumes around 20.49 TMC of water. Addition of new villages and towns into PMC and PCMC limits has aggravated this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, Khadakwasla dam, the major contributor of water resources for Pune, has only 13.01 TMC limit of storing water, and this is vanishing at a fast rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per officials from Water Resource Department, Pune city will be reeling under severe water crisis by May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
