{"id":1277887,"date":"2024-01-17T07:27:41","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T01:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1277887"},"modified":"2024-01-17T07:28:03","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T01:58:03","slug":"4-lakh-indians-flew-every-day-in-2023-15-2-crore-domestic-flyers-sets-new-aviation-record-in-india-highest-ever-in-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/4-lakh-indians-flew-every-day-in-2023-15-2-crore-domestic-flyers-sets-new-aviation-record-in-india-highest-ever-in-a-year\/","title":{"rendered":"4 Lakh Indians Flew Every Day In 2023: 15.2 Crore Domestic Flyers Sets New Aviation Record In India &#8211; Highest Ever In A Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The latest figures from Domestic air travel indicate that&nbsp; not only has it recovered to pre-Covid levels but is also thriving as it has already crossed last year&#8217;s mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-7-1280x720-1-1-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"4 Lakh Indians Flew Every Day In 2023: 15.2 Crore Domestic Flyers Sets New Aviation Record In India - Highest Ever In A Year!\" class=\"wp-image-1277894\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-7-1280x720-1-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-7-1280x720-1-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-7-1280x720-1-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-7-1280x720-1-1.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Highest Domestic Flyers Then Pre-Covid 2019 Levels<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) released the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/domestic-air-travel-in-india-reaches-record-high-of-152-crore-passengers-in-2023\/articleshow\/106871316.cms?from=mdr\">data<\/a> which shows that January-December 2023 saw 15.2 crore domestic air travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers appear to be the highest ever annual figure recorded in India interestingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, this number was 14.4 crore during pre-Covid calendar year 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later on it crashed to 6.3 crore in 2020, after a two-month suspension of regular flights during the national lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, domestic air travel seems to have shown a smart recovery to 8.4 crore in 2021 and again improved and&nbsp; reached to 12.3 crore in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foggy December Affecting The Performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This simply indicates that last year saw more people flying within the country than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During CY 2023, IndiGo\u2019s market share was 60.5%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining combined domestic share of the three Tata group airlines , Air India (9.7%), Vistara (9.1%) and AIX Connect (7.2%) comes to 26%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, SpiceJet and Akasa\u2019s market share reached 5.5% and 4.1%, respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides these, other airlines accounted for the remaining 3.9% of the market share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with the arrival of foggy December, the on time performance of airlines fell sharply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has greatly affected the performance to the extent&nbsp; ranging from upcoming Akasa\u2019s 72.7% for its domestic flights to Vistara\u2019s 70.8%, IndiGo\u2019s 68%, AIX Connect 65.7% and AI 52.4%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to big airlines, SpiceJet\u2019s OTP came to the lowest last month at just 29.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the DGCA data, over 3.6 lakh domestic passengers faced flight delays last month and airlines had to spend over Rs 5.4 crore on their \u201cfacilitation.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While all this was happening, December 2023 had seen 1.4 crore domestic flyers, still the highest ever monthly figure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest figures from Domestic air travel indicate that&nbsp; not only has it recovered to pre-Covid levels but is also thriving as it has already crossed last year&#8217;s mark.
