(As Per TCS HR Head)\" class=\"wp-image-1277858\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-1-5.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-1-5-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Untitled-design-1-5-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Concern Over Freshers Salary Remains Unchanged For Years<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there is also a concern about the low salaries offered for the freshers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, the technology majors such as TCS and Infosys witnessed a headcount decline following the December quarter earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raising the concerns, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/education\/tcs-explains-why-fresher-salaries-have-remained-in-3-4-lakh-range-for-many-years-it-jobs-18780201.htm\">media<\/a> asked TCS about the reason regarding fresher salaries which hovered around the Rs 3-4 lakh per annum range for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to this, the TCS\u2019 chief human resources officer (CHRO) Milind Lakkad answered that&nbsp; \u201cWe are paying based on the talent and we encourage people to come at different cadres.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further said that \u201cif freshers or existing employees are willing to upskill, then they can earn double and for some skills salaries go up to Rs 10 lakh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding, \u201cWe offer close to \u20b910 lakh for innovators. We are hiring people from NITs and IITs where we pay a lot more.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But interestingly on the question of what is the starting salary for freshers now, Lakkad confirmed that it is the same as it has been for the past many years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reducing Headcounts in IT Firm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Lakkad, once freshers join, they must understand the path to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lakkad said, \u201cYou take this path, your salary will double.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, these statements released a day after the firm\u2019s quarterly results were revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where, the IT giant revealed that its headcount has reduced for the second consecutive quarter by 5,680 employees in the October to December 2023 period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this, the total company strength stood at 603,305 and its attrition level has come down to 13.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lakkad said, \u201cWhen you look at headcount, you should look at the long term. Longer term means we hired a whole bunch of people\u2026very large numbers in FY22 and FY23. And we were leveraging all of this workforce over the past three quarters, and we continue to leverage that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cIf coupled with disciplined execution if you bring these things together, you will end up with a negative headcount. If you look at our gross hiring in this quarter, it is still a big number,\u201d Lakkad said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding, he won\u2019t be surprised if the headcount moderates further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the subject of campus hiring, he said that they are hiring for FY25 and that campuses are buzzing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further adding that the company always decides based on the quarterly demand and tunes it based on what is needed at a time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cCampus hiring is a strong element of our business and that continues.
