Swiggy\u2019s Annual Report Reveals India Ordered 2.5 Biryanis Per Second in 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report reveals that India, on average, ordered 2.5 biryanis per second during the year. Notably, for every 5.5 chicken biryanis ordered, there was one veg biryani. Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad emerged as the cities with the most prolific users, each boasting accounts that placed over 10,000 orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some standout occurrences include Bhubaneswar witnessing 207 pizzas ordered in a single day, while Jhansi saw a whopping 269 items placed in a single order. During festivals, Swiggy noted that Gulab Jamuns surpassed Roshogollas with over 7.7 million orders during Durga Pujo, and Masala Dosa claimed the top spot in veg orders for all nine days of Navaratri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangalore earned the title of “Cake Capital,” with 8.5 million orders for the beloved chocolate cake. On Valentine’s Day, India ordered 271 cakes per minute, with a user from Nagpur astonishingly ordering 92 cakes in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyderabad Termed the Biryani Capital<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hyderabad continued its reign as the “Biryani Capital” for the eighth consecutive year, with the dish being searched over 4 million times on the app. Every sixth biryani delivered by Swiggy in 2023 was ordered from Hyderabad, amounting to approximately 15 biryanis every minute, 900 biryanis per hour, or a staggering 21,600 biryanis per day. One particularly enthusiastic user ordered a remarkable 1,633 biryanis, averaging more than four biryanis daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a unique instance, a Swiggy user from Hyderabad spent a remarkable Rs 6 lakh exclusively on idlis in 2023. This follows a similar feat in the previous year, where another user ordered 8,428 plates of idlis, also exceeding Rs 6 lakh, including orders made while traveling across cities like Bengaluru and Chennai.
