The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) panel has approved a proposal in which it would change the way India is called in school books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It means to replace ‘India’ with ‘Bharat.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It recommended the adoption of ‘classical history’ nomenclature replacing ‘ancient history’ in textbooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee’s chairman,C I Issac underscored their importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to committee chairperson C I Isaac, the panel has suggested replacing the name “India” with “Bharat” in the textbooks, introducing “classical history” instead of “ancient history” in the curriculum including the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in the syllabus for all subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The committee has unanimously recommended that the name ‘Bharat’ should be used in textbooks for students across classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also recommended introducing ‘classical history’ instead of ‘ancient history instead of ‘ancient history’ in the textbooks,” Isaac told PTI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the textbooks say<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee has also recommended highlighting “Hindu victories” in various battles in the textbooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our failures are presently mentioned in the textbooks. But our victories over the Mughals and sultans are not,” said Isaac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He should be understood to be a member of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political matter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCERT is in the process of revising the curriculum of the school textbooks in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It recently constituted <\/a>a 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC) to finalise the curriculum, textbooks and learning material for these classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
