{"id":1274637,"date":"2023-10-22T13:44:53","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T08:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1274637"},"modified":"2023-10-22T13:45:28","modified_gmt":"2023-10-22T08:15:28","slug":"unemployment-rate-highest-among-indian-graduates-pgs-record-13-4-graduates-have-no-jobs-in-india-kotak-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/unemployment-rate-highest-among-indian-graduates-pgs-record-13-4-graduates-have-no-jobs-in-india-kotak-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Unemployment Rate Highest Among Indian Graduates, PGs: Record 13.4 % Graduates Have No Jobs In India (Kotak Research)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As per a recent report from Kotak Institutional Equities, unemployment rates continue to remain high among diploma or degree holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Unemployment-Banner-Opt.jpeg\" alt=\"Unemployment Rate Highest Among Indian Graduates, PGs: Record 13.4 % Graduates Have No Jobs In India (Kotak Research)\" class=\"wp-image-1274761\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Unemployment-Banner-Opt.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Unemployment-Banner-Opt-300x140.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Unemployment-Banner-Opt-768x357.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Not enough jobs for job seekers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said some progress has been made in the last five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there is a notable gap between job opportunities and job seekers which might take time to shorten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of June 2023, the unemployment rate among diploma holders stands at 12.1 percent, while it&#8217;s 13.4 percent for graduates and 12.1 percent for post-graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salaried force declines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual labour force survey shows that while the unemployment rate decreased significantly from 2018 to 2023, most of the new jobs created were for self-employed individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been a decline in the number of salaried workers, indicating that job quality hasn&#8217;t improved meaningfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Growth in self employment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surveys revealed a 510-basis point increase in &#8216;self-employed&#8217; individuals in India driven mainly by a 470 basis point rise in household helpers during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agriculture, trade, and transport sectors also saw a significant increase in self-employed workers over the past five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women in rural areas notably experienced increased participation and employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inconsistent real wage growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, real wage growth has been inconsistent across various segments, which has negatively impacted consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Annual wages for salaried workers increased at a 3.4 percent CAGR, while self-employed individuals saw a 1.8 percent CAGR increase in gross earnings from 2018 to 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Looking ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Kotak, real income growth has been erratic for both salaried and self-employed segments but has recently turned positive after a long period of divergence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless, the salaried sector is looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/business\/markets\/unemployment-rate-stays-high-among-educated-indians-kotak-report-11544891.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">challenges <\/a>in the coming quarters mainly due to cost reductions in the IT industry, which could impact this trend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As per a recent report from Kotak Institutional Equities, unemployment rates continue to remain high among diploma or degree holders.
