{"id":1274446,"date":"2023-10-15T06:57:12","date_gmt":"2023-10-15T01:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1274446"},"modified":"2023-10-15T06:57:45","modified_gmt":"2023-10-15T01:27:45","slug":"vivo-sent-rs-1-lakh-crore-from-india-to-china-without-paying-taxes-60-employees-worked-without-visa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/vivo-sent-rs-1-lakh-crore-from-india-to-china-without-paying-taxes-60-employees-worked-without-visa\/","title":{"rendered":"Vivo Sent Rs 1 Lakh Crore From India To China Without Paying Taxes; 60 Employees Worked Without Visa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The government said several employees of Vivo and its Indian affiliates hid their employment when applying for visas, among other allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Untitled-design-8-4.png\" alt=\"Vivo Sent Rs 1 Lakh Crore From India To China Without Paying Taxes; 60 Employees Worked Without Visa \" class=\"wp-image-1274458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Untitled-design-8-4.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Untitled-design-8-4-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Untitled-design-8-4-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visa case<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 30 Chinese individuals entered India on business visas and worked as Vivo employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Many employees of Vivo group companies worked in India without appropriate visas,&#8221; the agency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said they \u201chave concealed information regarding their employer in their visa applications and cheated the Indian embassy or missions in China\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Visiting sensitive areas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also broke rules by visiting the &#8220;sensitive&#8221; Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir, the financial crime agency has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India bars foreigners from entering or staying in the areas of Ladakh and parts of Jammu and Kashmir it has designated as &#8220;protected&#8221;, unless they have a permit from the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Various Chinese nationals have been traveling across India, including sensitive places of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, in gross violation of Indian visa conditions,&#8221; it said, speaking publicly for the first time regarding the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sino-India tensions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court statement comes in the midst of a tense situation with China over business activities after India tightened restrictions on incoming investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also banned hundreds of Chinese apps following border clashes in 2020 that killed 20 Indian and four Chinese troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vivo exec arrest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accusations follow the arrest of a Vivo executive, Guangwen Kuang earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrest revolves around a money laundering investigation launched in 2022 into India&#8217;s second biggest smartphone brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Illegal siphoning of money<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, the agency raided 48 sites linked to Vivo and its associates during the probe, accusing the company of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/india-accuses-chinas-vivo-visa-violations-siphoning-off-13-bln-2023-10-12\/?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">illegally <\/a>siphoning money to China to evade Indian taxes through companies it indirectly controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said $12.87 billion was remitted outside India by Vivo to some trading companies controlled by its Chinese parent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agency called this a &#8220;masking layer&#8221; intended to evade the government&#8217;s eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remittances to China<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;While no profits were shown from 2014-15 to 2019-20 in the statutory filings and no income taxes were paid &#8230; huge sums were siphoned off out of India,&#8221; the Enforcement Directorate added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last July it estimated $7.5 billion had been remitted mainly to China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vivo repeated the statement from earlier this week that said the executive&#8217;s arrest &#8220;deeply concerns us&#8221;, while adding that it remained &#8220;dedicated to legal compliance&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government said several employees of Vivo and its Indian affiliates hid their employment when applying for visas, among other allegations.
