The Delhi government has once again reinstated a ban<\/a> on the use of firecrackers in anticipation of the upcoming festive season.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decision has been championed by members of the Arvind Kejriwal-led government, who emphasize the crucial need to prioritize environmental protection and reduce pollution levels, particularly during the winter months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delhi Govt Bans Firecrackers Ahead of Upcoming Festive Season<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the newly enforced regulations, all activities related to firecrackers, including their manufacturing, storage, sale, online delivery, and bursting, are now completely prohibited within the national capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environment Minister Gopal Rai conveyed Chief Minister Kejriwal’s stance on this issue, stating, “Chief Minister Kejriwal has decided that firecrackers should be banned on the occasion of Diwali to control pollution. Police have been directed to issue a circular on behalf of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee that no license is issued…”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s noteworthy that Delhi has implemented similar restrictions in the lead-up to the festive season for the past three years. In the preceding year, the government had taken a stringent stance, announcing that the act of bursting firecrackers during Diwali within the city’s limits would be punishable by a jail term of up to six months and a fine of \u20b9200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Progress in Improving Delhi\u2019s Air Quality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environment Minister Rai emphasized the progress made in improving Delhi’s air quality over the past five to six years but stressed the need for further enhancements. This underscores the rationale behind the decision to once again impose a ban on firecrackers this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the preceding year, the government had disseminated guidelines stipulating that the production, storage, and sale of firecrackers in Delhi would be met with strict penalties, including fines of up to \u20b95,000 and imprisonment for a period of three years, in accordance with Section 9B of the Explosives Act. However, as of now, the Kejriwal government has not issued any fresh updates or modifications regarding these regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
