More!\" class=\"wp-image-1272477\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Untitled-design-14.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Untitled-design-14-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Untitled-design-14-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the five-door version of the original, and will be built from the ground up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expanding electric portfolio<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently the XUV400 is the company&#8217;s only electric offering, which is based on the XUV300 sub-compact SUV.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However it did not make much waves, hence the ambition of the Thar.e making a bigger impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company also revealed plans to unveil five &#8221;born electric&#8221; SUVs by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/feature\/mahindra-unveils-thar-e-electric-suv-in-south-africa-4300720\">October <\/a>2026 and the Thar.e is one among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exterior design<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Thar.e retains the boxy SUV silhouette from the current three-door Thar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However there are several updated visual elements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closed grille features the \u201cThar.e\u201d illuminated letters and is surrounded by squared elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are illuminated bars which reflect on the slatted design of the original Thar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be underpinned by a customized INGLO P1 platform, which also increases the wheelbase by 325mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wheelbase ranges from approximately 2,775mm to 2,975mm, widened to accommodate the extra doors and battery pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cabin is a departure from that of the current Thar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s an upright dashboard design with a rectangular-shaped fully digital display and a two-spoke steering wheel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The centre features a wide console which accommodates the gear lever, low-range gearbox, and drive modes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uniquely, there will be a water hose inside that can clean the cabin entirely after off-roading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company has also roped in musical composer, A R <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/auto\/electric-cars\/mahindra-thar-e-unveiled-electric-suvs-features-launch-time-explained\/articleshow\/102749565.cms?from=mdr\">Rahman <\/a>who has developed 75 sounds right from opening the door to different drive modes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Battery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The electric Thar is powered by a big battery pack which offers a range of over 400 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The INGLO platform on which the architecture is based supports battery capacities ranging from 60 to 80 kWh along with fast charging capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahindra has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/feature\/mahindra-unveils-thar-e-electric-suv-in-south-africa-4300720\">claimed <\/a>that the new platform will allow its e-vehicles to charge up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Further details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is expected to feature a dual electric motor setup with 4WD with terrain-specific drive modes as standard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are limited details considering this is just a concept version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company&#8217;s new electric plant will <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/articleshow\/102749565.cms?from=mdr&amp;utm_source=contentofinterest&amp;utm_medium=text&amp;utm_campaign=cppst\">begin <\/a>operations by March 2024, so the Thar.e may be launched towards later 2024 or early 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardekho.com\/india-car-news\/mahindra-thar-ev-concept-breaks-cover-in-south-africa-as-a-5door-31288.htm\">expected <\/a>to be priced over Rs 25 lakh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mahindra has debuted the Thar EV global concept, called the Thar.e at the carmaker\u2019s Independence Day 2023 event in South Africa.
