US chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will invest $400 million in India over the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announcement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe planned investment will include a new India campus, which will serve as AMD\u2019s largest R&D facility in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our investment will build out over two decades of growth and successful presence here in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today I can tell you that we expect to add approximately 3000 additional engineers here in India by the end of 2028,” said <\/a>Mark Papermaster, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New campus and jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment will include a new AMD campus in Bengaluru that will function as the company\u2019s largest design center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will also add approximately 3,000 new engineering roles by the end of 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presence in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company began its operations in India back in 2001 when it set up its first site in New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today it has more than 6500 employees in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new 500,000-square-foot Bengaluru campus will increase its office footprint to 10 total locations across these cities: Bangalore, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Mumbai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campus is expected to open before the end of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is said to feature <\/a>extensive lab space, state-of-the-art collaboration tools and seating configurations designed to encourage teamwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur India team will be pivotal in advancing AI and machine learning in both hardware and software capabilities,” Papermaster said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India Semiconductor Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made at the Semicon India conference in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is meant to attract investment into India’s chip industry and promote the country as a semiconductor manufacturing hub to rival destinations like Taiwan and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From a handful of employees in 2001 to more than 6,500 employees today, AMD has grown its India footprint based on the strong foundation established by our local leadership and the highly skilled talent pool,\u201d said Papermaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy further investing and expanding our presence in Bangalore, we are committed to driving innovation in India to support the India Semiconductor Mission,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
