{"id":1247576,"date":"2023-07-16T05:04:14","date_gmt":"2023-07-15T23:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1247576"},"modified":"2023-07-16T05:04:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-15T23:34:48","slug":"wipro-employees-headcount-declines-3rd-quarter-in-row-8812-fewer-employees-in-wipro-compared-to-last-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wipro-employees-headcount-declines-3rd-quarter-in-row-8812-fewer-employees-in-wipro-compared-to-last-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"Wipro Employees Headcount Declines, 3rd Quarter In Row: 8812 Fewer Employees In Wipro Compared To Last Quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Indian IT major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/business\/announcements\/wipro-sees-headcount-decline-for-the-third-consecutive-quarter-ends-q1fy24-with-7163-fewer-employees-10953451.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">Wipro<\/a> witnessed a headcount decline for the third consecutive quarter, ending the June quarter with 8,812 fewer employees than the previous quarter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Untitled-design-1-7-1280x720-1024x576-1024x576-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1247608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Untitled-design-1-7-1280x720-1024x576-1024x576-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Untitled-design-1-7-1280x720-1024x576-1024x576-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Untitled-design-1-7-1280x720-1024x576-1024x576-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Did This Happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of date, the company\u2019s headcount stands at 2,49,758.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, during the same period last year, Wipro added 15,446 employees in its workforce,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company&#8217;s attrition numbers seems to have continued their downward trend in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bangalore-based IT company\u2019s&nbsp; trailing-twelve-month rate came in at 17.3 percent in Q1FY24, down from 19.2 percent in the preceding quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, its quarterly annualized attrition is at an 8-quart-low of 14 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, the IT firm has integrated its Indian business from state-run enterprises (ISRE) sector with its broader IT Services segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The merger is leading to headcount for that segment also being added to the total.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>No Addition In Headcount<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the last quarter, Wipro had shown its headcount at 2,56,921.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But now, it has now been revised to 2,58,570 to account for the integration of the ISRE business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before this, Wipro\u2019s headcount addition in each subsequent quarter fell precipitously during the last fiscal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it added over 15,000 employees in the first quarter, 605 in the second, and saw a decline of 435 and 1823 respectively in the third and fourth quarters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the firm, the number of people it added in FY22 and the first quarter of FY23 was one of the reasons for not adding headcount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally, hiring is an indicator of demand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, As there is a fall in demand, hiring numbers were not expected to be significant across companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company was not backfilling all attrition, especially if people are on the bench, said Saurabh Govil, the Wipro Chief Human Resources Officer last quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears crucial as Wipro has a large bench.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s Net utilization excluding trainees this quarter stands at 83.7 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presence of a wide bench is also the reason why Wipro has not gone to campuses in FY23 to recruit freshers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, the IT service providers graduate recruits\u2014those it calls next-gen associates\u2014from FY22 are still waiting to be onboarded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, Wipro has maintained that it will honor all offers made, but has not committed to any date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company did not recruit any freshers in Q1, Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil said, maintaining that they will be onboard as per business requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to its peers, TCS saw a net addition of 523 employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contrary to that, HCL Technologies ended the quarter with 2,500 fewer employees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian IT major Wipro witnessed a headcount decline for the third consecutive quarter, ending the June quarter with 8,812 fewer employees than the previous quarter.&nbsp; How Did This Happen?
