{"id":1247399,"date":"2023-07-11T07:57:33","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T02:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1247399"},"modified":"2023-07-11T07:58:09","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T02:28:09","slug":"adani-shifts-focus-on-startups-buys-30-stake-in-this-rail-booking-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/adani-shifts-focus-on-startups-buys-30-stake-in-this-rail-booking-application\/","title":{"rendered":"Adani Shifts Focus On Startups: Buys 30% Stake In This Rail Booking Application"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Recently, Indian multinational which is also part of the Adani group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.financialexpress.com\/business\/railways-what-is-trainman-in-which-adani-enterprises-has-acquired-30-per-cent-stake-3161684\/\">Adani Enterprises<\/a> has acquired a nearly 30 percent stake in Start Enterprises Pvt Ltd (SEPL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Adani-1280x720-3-1024x576-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Adani Shifts Focus On Startups: Buys 30% Stake In This Rail Booking Application\" class=\"wp-image-1247406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Adani-1280x720-3-1024x576-1.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Adani-1280x720-3-1024x576-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Adani-1280x720-3-1024x576-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adani Enterprises Acquiring Stake In SEPL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEPL is also the owner of Trainman, an online platform for train ticket bookings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news of this acquisition was announced by Adani Enterprises last month further stating their intention to acquire 100 percent of SEPL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adani Enterprises disclosed that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Adani Digital Labs Pvt Ltd, has purchased a 29.81 per cent stake in SEPL for Rs 3.56 crore, in a filing with the stock exchange on Saturday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, SEPL reported a turnover of Rs 4.51 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23 (April 2022 to March 2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What To Expect In The Future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trainman was founded in 2011 by Vineet Chirania and Karan Kumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is an Indian train travel booking app that allows passengers to check their PNR (Passenger Name Record) status, predicts the likelihood of getting a confirmed seat from a waitlist, and provides real-time updates on seat availability, train status, timetable, coach position, fare calculation, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, this investment in Trainman marks the Adani Group\u2019s second foray into the travel booking and information segment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to this, Adani Enterprises acquired a minority stake in Cleartrip Pvt Ltd, an online travel aggregator owned by Flipkart during October 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per the initial description of SEPL by Adani Enterprises, Trainman is an \u201conline train booking and information platform\u201d, the company now describes it as an entity involved in \u201ce-commerce and website development\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, this change in description caused some controversy last month when Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh suggested that Adani\u2019s acquisition of Trainman could potentially lead to a takeover of IRCTC, the Indian Railways\u2019 ticketing and service arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But later on, IRCTC issued a statement denying the allegation, explaining that around 14.5 lakh reserved tickets are booked daily in Indian Railways, with approximately 81 per cent being e-tickets processed through IRCTC itself.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further explaining that as a business-to-consumer (B2C) partner of IRCTC, Trainman contributes only 0.13 per cent of the total reserved ticketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in simple words, there is no competition between IRCTC and its agents, including Trainman, as they are integrated with IRCTC\u2019s platform, ultimately benefiting customers by providing a seamless ticketing process, IRCTC emphasized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, Indian multinational which is also part of the Adani group, Adani Enterprises has acquired a nearly 30 percent stake in Start Enterprises Pvt Ltd (SEPL).
