Google Is Searching Indian Partners For Assembling Pixel Phones\" class=\"wp-image-1246827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pixel-3-Banner-1280x720-1-1024x576-1.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pixel-3-Banner-1280x720-1-1024x576-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Pixel-3-Banner-1280x720-1-1024x576-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Companies in consideration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has initiated talks with companies including homegrown Lava International Ltd. and Dixon Technologies India Ltd. as well as Foxconn Technology Group\u2019s Indian unit Bharat FIH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key Google executives who visited India this month for the partnership talks included Ana Corrales, operating chief of its consumer hardware arm, and Maggie Wei, a senior director of global sustaining product operations, sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google would be the latest global technology giant to approach India as a viable alternative to China for smartphone production after the negative impact of COVID and strict restriction policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apple manufacturing in India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple has shifted some of its iPhone production to India in recent years and has been assembling its iPhones locally dating back to 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsmarena.com\/bloomberg_google_is_looking_to_outsource_pixel_phone_production_to_india-news-58922.php\">plans <\/a>to move up to 25% of all iPhone production to India by 2025 and up to 50% by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The potential partners Google is in talks with have won production-linked financial incentives, which have boosted local manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple has used the program to widen its supplier base in India and tripled iPhone output to more than $7 billion in the fiscal year through March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alternative manufacturing hub<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting the country as an alternative manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China has become difficult due to its harsh Covid lockdowns and a trade war with the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modi is scheduled to visit the US where his delegation is expected to hold talks regarding topics including a removal of tech trade barriers between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had met with Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai where they spoke about Modi\u2019s local manufacturing drive and India\u2019s state-backed technology push.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Potential manufacturing of other products<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India&nbsp; is also a key growth market for Google\u2019s services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local assembly could help drive up Pixel sales and if production is successful, Google could also move production of other hardware such as speakers to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, there is no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/business\/google-seeks-suppliers-to-move-pixel-production-to-india-report-10826571.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">certainty <\/a>Google\u2019s talks will result in a deal and the company could opt not to build the Pixel in India.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google is looking for suppliers in India to assemble its Pixel smartphones in an effort to diversify beyond China.
