{"id":1246713,"date":"2023-06-19T07:45:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-19T02:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1246713"},"modified":"2023-06-19T07:46:29","modified_gmt":"2023-06-19T02:16:29","slug":"iphone-maker-foxconn-plans-to-launch-electric-car-factory-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/iphone-maker-foxconn-plans-to-launch-electric-car-factory-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"iPhone Maker Foxconn Plans To Launch Electric Car Factory In India!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Foxconn, the maker of the Apple iPhone is planning to enter the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing space in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Taiwanese contract manufacturer has been in talks with some state governments to carry out its plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Untitled-design-2-5.png\" alt=\"iPhone Maker Foxconn Plans To Launch Electric Car Factory In India!\" class=\"wp-image-1246719\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Untitled-design-2-5.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Untitled-design-2-5-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Untitled-design-2-5-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Existing projects<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It already has car projects running with the Yulon Group in Taiwan, with Fisker Inc. and Lordstown Motors in the US, and with state oil company PTT in Thailand, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will also team up with the Saudi Public Investment Fund to create a new EV brand called Ceer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indian market<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India is a large consumer market and its appeal is furthered by favourable demographics, and government initiatives like \u201cMake in India\u201d which are drawing several companies to invest in manufacturing facilities within the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndia is expected to become a sizeable EV market ($100B+ opportunity by 2030 across value chain) driven by strong domestic demand, favorable regulatory environment and OEM push,\u201d said Deepak Jain, Partner, Bain &amp; Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Explicit plans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foxconn said that India will be part of its plans to provide two-wheeled EV manufacturing services that will cater to the EV two-wheeler market in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first instance where it has explicitly spoken about EV manufacturing in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Possible strategies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is still unclear whether it will do contract manufacturing for multiple brands or for a single brand through the JV (joint venture) route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A source said, &#8220;They have a tie-up with Ather Energy (electric scooter maker) but it is likely that they will look for a partner when they come into the space \u2014 possibly with one of the (Indian) auto giants \u2014 like they did for semiconductors.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>States under consideration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials from four states \u2014 Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh \u2014 had met top Foxconn executives to discuss EV manufacturing plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foxconn is keen on Maharashtra as a base for EV manufacturing, however \u201cthere were some challenges that cropped up. So they might consider Tamil Nadu as it has an auto manufacturing hub and Foxconn already has a presence in the state\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also considering Telangana as it is \u201cthe most active state in terms of outreach and incentive\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manufacturing model<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMobility is a new space for Foxconn\u201d, Neil Shah, vice president of research at Counterpoint Research, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company will adopt the \u201cBuild-Operate-Localise (BOL) model\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of this model, it will build a vertical platform including manufacturing, hardware, component manufacturing, and battery management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will then partner with local firms through its MIH (Mobility in Harmony) platform which is an open EV alliance that promotes collaboration in the mobility industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Android of the EV ecosystem<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will cooperate and strive with more than 1,500 member companies at home and abroad \u201cto become the Android platform of the electric vehicle industry\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shah had said that they want to <a href=\"https:\/\/m-economictimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/m.economictimes.com\/tech\/technology\/foxconn-may-set-up-ev-factory-in-india-this-year\/amp_articleshow\/101027248.cms\">become <\/a>the Android of the EV ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/article\/cobalt-battery-evs-shortage\">Image<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Foxconn, the maker of the Apple iPhone is planning to enter the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing space in India.
