{"id":1245765,"date":"2023-05-23T04:47:43","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T23:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1245765"},"modified":"2023-05-23T04:48:16","modified_gmt":"2023-05-22T23:18:16","slug":"these-mumbai-local-trains-will-be-converted-into-vande-bharat-trains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/these-mumbai-local-trains-will-be-converted-into-vande-bharat-trains\/","title":{"rendered":"These Mumbai Local Trains Will Be Converted Into Vande Bharat Trains!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Changing the dynamics of comfortable public travel in the city, fully air-conditioned locals were introduced into Mumbai&#8217;s network on December 25, 2017 for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-4-10-1280x720-1-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-1024x576-1.jpeg\" alt=\"These Mumbai Local Trains Will Be Converted Into Vande Bharat Trains!\" class=\"wp-image-1245778\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-4-10-1280x720-1-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-1024x576-1.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-4-10-1280x720-1-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-1024x576-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Untitled-design-4-10-1280x720-1-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-1024x576-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MRVC For Mumbai Railway Upgrade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week witnessed a historic shift for Mumbai\u2019s lifeline as the Ministry of Railways announced a decision that some believe will revolutionize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mid-day.com\/mumbai\/mumbai-news\/article\/mumbai-ac-locals-to-be-upgraded-to-vande-metro-trains-23287740\">local suburban train<\/a> travel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry has issued a one-sheet, five-point note to the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MRVC is the rail upgrade, project planning and implementation body for the city, directing it to upgrade Mumbai local trains into the classy, Vande Metro (suburban) trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that the MRVC has been instructed to place orders for the \u201cprocurement of 238 trains of Vande Metro (suburban) under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3 and 3A\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the MUTP projects are jointly funded by the state and the central government and aimed to upgrade the city\u2019s rail network with new corridors and trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Getting External Help<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving ahead, the trains will not be manufactured in the government-run railway factories, but by technology partners who will be roped in on contract-basis, the note stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, these partners will have to adhere to the Make in India guidelines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two car depots which are already approved under MUTP III &amp; 3A projects at Vangaon on Western Railway and Bhivpuri on Central Railway will be set up by the technology partner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this the ministry has already given the MRVC the green signal to invite tenders for the project with stringent maintenance requirements for the next 35 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that the planning body needs to consult with the Western and Central Railway for the requirement of 12\/15 car trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chairman and managing director, MRVC, SC Gupta said,\u201cThe decision to procure Vande Metro (suburban) trains reflects the government\u2019s long-term vision for suburban rail networks and emphasizes its commitment to providing world-class transportation facilities to commuters. The introduction of these state-of-the-art trains will undoubtedly elevate the suburban travel experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First time, the idea for the AC local train was mooted in 2002 which was aimed to combat the deaths caused by overcrowded trains.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 2005 and 2015, \u201c25,722 passengers fell from suburban trains [traveling on Western, Central and Harbour suburban services in Mumbai Commissionerate], of whom 6,989 commuters died while 18,733 survived,\u201d according to an RTI query by the Government Railway Police.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly, around 700 died last year, after falling off running trains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Changing the dynamics of comfortable public travel in the city, fully air-conditioned locals were introduced into Mumbai&#8217;s network on December 25, 2017 for the first time.
