In a recent development, the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce, or ONDC<\/a>, has breached the 10,000 daily order mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Did This Happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It could achieve this with help by early discounts and the discovery of a cheaper food delivery system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for the network confirmed,”In the past few days, ONDC has enabled over 10,000 daily transactions for retail products and over 33,000 daily rides,”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that the system has been servicing over 10,000 orders daily since April 29, thus completing exactly one year since its first test order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During September 2022, ONDC became accessible to users after it went beta-live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, the facility is available in 240 cities in India, with eight cities having more than three sellers in 70% of pin codes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform is live in categories including grocery, food delivery, beauty and personal care, fashion, electronics, and mobility, with over 35,000 merchants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, there are 46 network participants such as Dunzo, Delhivery, boAt, ITC Meesho, Paytm, and PhonePe’s Pincode are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to ONDC, about 450 participants are in the process of integrating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Big Blow To Rivals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that the screenshots from users comparing the prices of food and beverage items on food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy to ONDC have been doing the rounds on social media in the past few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is confirmed that the same food item was the cheapest to order off ONDC via the Paytm app, even with all applicable, non-membership discounts on the Zomato and Swiggy apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Basically, ONDC is offering various inaugural discounts to help generate momentum on the platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides this the platformIt is not charging delivery or convenience fees in order to keep the cost lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huge Potential In Future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The order on the ONDC is placed via the Paytm app and the backend of this transaction was powered by Zomato-backed Magicpin, which is both a buyer and seller network participant on ONDC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time the delivery part of it was done by Reliance-backed Dunzo in partnership with Magicpin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, Magicpin, which is a discovery platform for eating out and shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has reported that it is now fulfilling more than 10,000 orders per day on the ONDC network, both via its own seller portal and through other seller portals such as PhonePe\u2019s Pincode, Meesho, and Paytm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n


The chief executive officer and co-founder at Magicpin,  Anshoo Sharma, said, “In two weeks, from less than 100 orders a day, we had a 10 times jump to 1,000 orders a day, and then in the next two weeks, Magicpin scaled up to 10,000 plus orders a day, which was again another 10 times from the previous landmark, making it more than three lakh orders per month, which eventually is helping the retailers on the ground.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has urged all e-commerce companies\u2014local, national, or global\u2014to hop on the ONDC bandwagon over the past six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further adding, “We\u2019re still at levels where I can see a journey of 100\u20131,000x growth in the next few months,” at an ONDC event in April.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
