Earlier, Indian software major Wipro made headlines in February when it decided to slash freshers’ job offers by almost 50 percent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wipro Slashing Freshers Salary By Half<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that the tech giant had offered salary packages of Rs 6.5 lakh to freshers initially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But later on the company mentioned that it was altering freshers’ compensation, citing the ‘changing macro environment’ as the reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As expected this move attracted a lot of backlash from people as they questioned the ethics of such a decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is noteworthy here that the company was not forcing the freshers to accept the new offer and had given them a chance to decide if they wanted to hop on board with the lower compensation offer, as per the report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast Tracking Onboarding Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent times, Wipro’s Chief Financial Officer, Jatin Dalal has revealed that 92 percent of freshers decided to join the company at the low salary offer in order to fast-track the onboarding process, in an interview with the Economic Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further adding, \u201cThe decisions regarding freshers are taken with full fairness and transparency. The next-gen associates were given both the options and 92 percent of the campus hires chose to join Wipro at the original offer. We will continue to onboard next-gen associates based on our business needs throughout the year,\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving ahead, talking about how the company gave a choice to employees, he said, \u201cWe also gave options to the employees (to join or not). So I am not being defensive on a decision. But we always believe that we are doing the right thing on an aggregate basis for the employees who are joining us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears that freshers opted to join the company faster at a half salary offer rather than waiting for onboarding at a higher package. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immediate Opperchunity For Candidates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wipro had announced that it will not be offering the lucrative salary offers to freshers as it had promised before last month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It had promised an annual compensation of Rs 6.5 lakh to all freshers but later on revealed that the freshers’ compensation offers had been slashed and they were asked to accept annual packages of around Rs 3.5 lakh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IT giant said, \u201cLike others in our industry, we continue to assess global economies and customer needs, which factor into our hiring plans. Currently, we have project engineers\u2019 roles available for recruitments with an annual compensation of Rs 3.5 lakh. If you choose to accept this offer, all previous offers will stand void,\u201d in an email sent to freshers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, the email stated, “As we work to honor all outstanding offers made, this current offer creates an immediate opportunity for candidates to start their careers, build their expertise and acquire new skills \u2014 both through the interesting and innovative work that we do, as well as our extensive learning and development programmes,\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
