{"id":1245011,"date":"2023-04-26T10:55:25","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T05:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1245011"},"modified":"2023-04-26T10:55:59","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T05:25:59","slug":"mg-will-invest-rs-800-crore-to-manufacture-its-cheapest-electric-car-in-gujarat-mg-comet-is-launching-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/mg-will-invest-rs-800-crore-to-manufacture-its-cheapest-electric-car-in-gujarat-mg-comet-is-launching-today\/","title":{"rendered":"MG Will Invest Rs 800 Crore To Manufacture Its Cheapest Electric Car In Gujarat: MG Comet Is Launching Today!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MG is set to launch the new Comet EV on April 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Urban EV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is simultaneously its second fully electric offering for India and also its smallest electric car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-8-5.png\" alt=\"MG Will Invest Rs 800 Crore To Manufacture Its Cheapest Electric Car In Gujarat: Comet Is Launching Today! \" class=\"wp-image-1245023\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-8-5.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-8-5-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-8-5-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The two-door, compact Comet EV will squarely rival the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 in the urban EV segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Platform<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Comet EV is basically a rebadged Wuling Air EV that\u2019s sold in Indonesia and based on parent company SAIC\u2019s GSEV platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This born-electric platform will also underpin the EV SUV version of the Comet \u2013 the Baojun Yep SUV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featuring boxy proportions and a high ground clearance the Baojun Yep SUV goes on sale in India sometime in 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Comet EV will measure 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width, 1,631mm in height and will have a wheelbase of 2010mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes it shorter and narrower than its immediate rival, the Tiago EV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exterior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is expected to get 12-inch alloy wheels, front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, McPherson Struts on the front and multi-link coil suspension at the rear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As has been teased before, the Comet EV will be the first mass-market EV to get a dual 10.25-inch infotainment screen layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other highlights of the interior include a two-spoke steering wheel with Apple iPod-inspired controls, a strict four-seater layout and the typical space and packaging advantages of born EVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Features such as connected car tech, electric parking brake, hill-start assist, keyless entry and go, drive modes, and voice commands can also be expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Battery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is expected to come with a single 17.3 kWh battery pack option that will offer a claimed range of 230 km on a full charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has also been reported that the single PMS motor of the Comet will be able to produce 41.4 hp and 110 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Charging&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A complete charge from a 3.3 kW charger can be expected in 7 hours from 0 to 100 percent and 5 hours from 10 to 80 percent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Comet is <a href=\"https:\/\/m-timesofindia-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/m.timesofindia.com\/auto\/electric-cars\/mg-comet-ev-to-be-unveiled-on-26th-april-what-to-expect-from-this-micro-ev\/amp_articleshow\/99750544.cms\">unlikely <\/a>to get fast-charging capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Price<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Comet EV is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh-12 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For comparison, the Tata Tiago EV is priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and 11.99 lakh while the Citroen eC3 is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh-12.43 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Comet will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocarindia.com\/car-news\/mg-comet-ev-to-launch-on-april-26-427945\">assembled <\/a>in India and MG plans to give it over 60 percent localisation to price it as competitively as possible.\u00a0As per reports, MG will invest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energetica-india.net\/news\/mg-motor-india-outlays-inr-800-crore-to-produce-comet-ev-in-gujarat\">Rs 800<\/a> crore to manufacture this economical electric car in Gujarat..
