{"id":1244531,"date":"2023-04-11T08:13:31","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T02:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1244531"},"modified":"2023-04-11T08:14:04","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T02:44:04","slug":"tata-will-take-control-of-iphone-manufacturing-unit-in-bengaluru-2000-employees-can-be-fired-by-tata","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/tata-will-take-control-of-iphone-manufacturing-unit-in-bengaluru-2000-employees-can-be-fired-by-tata\/","title":{"rendered":"Tata Will Take Control Of iPhone Manufacturing Unit In Bengaluru: 2000 Employees Can Be Fired By Tata"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tata Group seems to be all set to complete the takeover of Wistron\u2019s iPhone plant in Bengaluru by the end of this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-15-1280x720-1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Tata Will Take Control Of iPhone Manufacturing Unit In Bengaluru: 2000 Employees Can Be Fired By Tata\" class=\"wp-image-1244542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-15-1280x720-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-15-1280x720-1-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-15-1280x720-1-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Untitled-design-15-1280x720-1.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tata Group Taking Over Wistron\u2019s iPhone Plant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This move holds significance as it would be giving India its first homegrown production line for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindubusinessline.com\/info-tech\/tata-group-to-complete-wistrons-iphone-plant-buyout-deal-this-month\/article66717055.ece\">Apple<\/a> products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering this change, the Indian conglomerate has already started organizational changes at the plant, according to the sources close to this takeover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further adding that around 2,000 factory personnel could be asked to go as part of this takeover process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides this, the Bengaluru iPhone plant&nbsp; may see an attrition of 400 mid-level executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, about 4- 5 senior level executives have already been let go or are in the process of exiting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Does This Help?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming to Wistron\u2019s Indian plant, it had nearly eight production lines, which are currently manufacturing iPhone 12 and iPhone 14.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some speculations suggest that Tata will start manufacturing iPhone 15 after this takeover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, Wistron\u2019s Bengaluru plant was the Taiwanese electronics company\u2019s only product line for Apple products in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This takeover of&nbsp; Wistron will help the company in completely divesting from the iPhone business in India which is estimated to be worth $600 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the unawares, this 2.2 million square foot factory is located just on the outskirts of Bengaluru.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why Would This Happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These changes are coming in fruition when Apple is eyeing India\u2019s manufacturing prowess with interest, especially as they wish to shift production from China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that due to geopolitical troubles between the US and China, the Cupertino, California-based company announced its plans to shift 25 percent of global production to India.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of now, there are three Taiwanese firms including&nbsp; Wistron, Pegatron and Foxconn that assemble Apple products in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, Wistron announced its plans to leave India\u2019s iPhone business as early as 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, Foxconn and Pegatron have increased their production lines in India recently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to increase its business, Tata has taken other steps with Apple, such as increasing hiring at its plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, where iPhone components are manufactured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tata Group seems to be eyeing manufacturing for Apple to be a golden opportunity, especially as the Indian government is courting Apple extensively to shift its production to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tata will potentially acquire Pegatron\u2019s manufacturing units for iPhone once the Wistron takeover is complete, as per the Industry insiders speculations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tata Group seems to be all set to complete the takeover of Wistron\u2019s iPhone plant in Bengaluru by the end of this month.
