{"id":1244051,"date":"2023-03-26T11:38:39","date_gmt":"2023-03-26T06:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1244051"},"modified":"2023-03-26T11:39:15","modified_gmt":"2023-03-26T06:09:15","slug":"fire-risk-for-570000-hyundai-kia-cars-owners-asked-to-park-hyundai-kia-cars-outside-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/fire-risk-for-570000-hyundai-kia-cars-owners-asked-to-park-hyundai-kia-cars-outside-in-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire Risk For 570,000 Hyundai, Kia Cars; Owners Asked To Park Hyundai, Kia Cars Outside In US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hyundai and Kia have issued a recall of over 570,000 U.S. vehicles over fire risks and urged owners to park outside and away until it is repaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EVEV19-1-1280x720-1024x576-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Fire Risk For 570,000 Hyundai, Kia Cars; Owners Asked To Park Hyundai, Kia Cars Outside In US\" class=\"wp-image-1244092\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EVEV19-1-1280x720-1024x576-1.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EVEV19-1-1280x720-1024x576-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EVEV19-1-1280x720-1024x576-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The issue<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They warned that some vehicles with tow hitch harnesses can catch fire while they are parked or being driven due to a short circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyundai has <a href=\"https:\/\/m-economictimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/m.economictimes.com\/news\/international\/business\/park-outside-hyundai-kia-recall-vehicles-due-to-fire-risk\/amp_articleshow\/98945155.cms\">reports <\/a>of one fire and five heat damage incidents with no injuries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kia has said in documents by US safety regulators that water <a href=\"https:\/\/m-economictimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/m.economictimes.com\/news\/international\/business\/park-outside-hyundai-kia-recall-vehicles-due-to-fire-risk\/amp_articleshow\/98945155.cms\">can <\/a>get into a circuit board on the hitches and cause a short circuit even if the ignitions are off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Affected models<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyundai has reports of one fire and five heat damage incidents with no injuries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kia has no reports of fires or injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those affected include 2022-2023 model year Hyundai Santa Cruz, 2019-2023 Santa Fe, 2021-2023 Santa Fe Hybrid, 2022-2023 Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, and 2022-2023 Kia Carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do note that the only Kia affected is the Carnival minivan from 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Situation so far<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyundai is recalling nearly 568,000 vehicles and Kia 3,500 in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carmaker has acknowledged six potential incidents related to the recall, including one fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no confirmed crashes or injuries related to the recall issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kia said it has no reports of fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The latest recall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Water accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (PCB) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire,&#8221; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said, adding the recall is a direct result of its monitoring of Hyundai&#8217;s 2022 recall of 245,030 Palisade vehicles for a tow hitch fire issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyundai and Kia dealers will install new fuse and wire extension kits to address the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an interim repair Hyundai said its dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fixes this time around<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recalls come <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/hyundai-motor-america-recall-567912-vehicles-nhtsa-2023-03-23\/?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">after <\/a>both Korean carmakers said they would provide free software fixes for 8.3 million vehicles to stop a rash of thefts inspired by TikTok video trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dealers at first will remove the fuse and tow hitch computer module until a fix is available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later they will <a href=\"https:\/\/m-economictimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/m.economictimes.com\/news\/international\/business\/park-outside-hyundai-kia-recall-vehicles-due-to-fire-risk\/amp_articleshow\/98945155.cms\">install <\/a>a new fuse and wire extension with an improved connector that&#8217;s waterproof.
