seconds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/facebook-stretches-out-reels-to-a-maximum-90-second-length-194628208.html\">increased <\/a>the Instagram Reels time limit to 90 seconds last July, but both fall someway short of the maximum length of a TikTok video, which currently stands at 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company is also rolling out more creative tools, including a new templates feature that lets users create Reels with trending templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Templates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new feature, which rolled out to Instagram Reels last year, makes it <a href=\"https:\/\/me.pcmag.com\/en\/social-media-1\/15218\/meta-extends-maximum-facebook-reel-length-to-90-seconds\">possible <\/a>for users to rip a template from a Reel they\u2019ve just watched and implement it in their own creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Templates are somewhat similar to TikTok\u2019s own templating option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Grooves<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reels is also getting a new \u201cGrooves\u201d feature that automatically aligns and syncs the motion in the video to the beat of the creator\u2019s favorite song through visual beat technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, this refers to syncing clips with a song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again Meta\u2019s taking inspiration from TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Syncing video to sounds has been a defining characteristic of the Chinese behemoth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TikTok threat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These new features had already made their way to Instagram more than seven months ago, and are now being released on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A point could be made that Meta wanted to test the waters on Instagram Reels before bringing them over to Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facebook launched Reels to compete with TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Short-form vertical Reels<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, Meta saw Reels as a way to directly combat TikTok with a feature inside the Instagram app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it quickly saw the potential to launch a more powerful counteroffensive if it also brought Facebook into the mix and allowed for cross-posting between the two social networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August, Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/me.pcmag.com\/en\/social-media-1\/15218\/meta-extends-maximum-facebook-reel-length-to-90-seconds\">allowed <\/a>Reel-makers to cross-post their Reels on their Instagram and Facebook pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cash cow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reels is the social networking giant\u2019s fastest growing format which also continues to grow quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reels\u2019 plays\/views across Facebook and Instagram have more than doubled over the last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reshares (akin to Twitter retweets or Tumblr reblogs) of Reels have more than doubled on Facebook and Instagram in the last six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meta plans to continue to roll out new features for its coveted asset to make it <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/03\/03\/meta-rolls-out-new-facebook-reels-features-expands-max-video-length-to-90-seconds\/\">easier <\/a>for creators to get
