NITES Approaches Union Minister Against Wipro<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe NITES demanded that the offer letter’s terms and the contract’s terms be broken and that the labor department step in and take the appropriate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company offered students in its “Elite” and “Turbo” tiers Rs 3.5 lakh per annum (LPA) and Rs 6.5 LPA, respectively. Through the company’s Velocity program, some Elite candidates could upgrade their skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it made a number of Turbo candidates an offer last week to accept a job at Rs 3.5 LPA through which they could be hired in March. Wipro could not provide students with a timetable for when they would be onboarded, but if they chose not to, they would continue to hold their offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President of NITES Harpreet Singh Saluja claimed in a letter that students were given job offers between September 2021 and January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harpreet Singh Saluja, President, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate NITES said, “This to inform you about our recent submission of a complaint to the Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India against Wipro which is engaged in unethical salary reduction practices. Instead of working with their employees to find solutions, Wipro has resorted to unethical practices such as cutting salaries without prior notice or consultation with the employees. NITES has taken this matter to the Labour Ministry to seek justice for the affected employees. It is essential to hold Wipro accountable and ensure that the rights and interests of the workers are protected.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unpaid Internship Offered By Wipro; Onboarding Delayed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe letter states that employees were informed by the company in February 2022 that they could either pay for training that would cost between Rs 30,000 and 40,000 or participate in an unpaid internship and a 3-month training programme called Velocity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Unpaid Internship began in late March or early April 2022 and ended in late July 2022. The company kept pushing back the joining or onboarding date for these employees, which was originally scheduled to be completed in August 2022, according to the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the letter by the NITES, the salary reduction proposal is unethical and “clearly violates the terms of the offer letter and is a breach of contract.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wipro Admits Delay In Onboarding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nIn the recent past, large Information Technology (IT) service providers, such as Wipro, have dominated the conversation in the industry about delays in onboarding new employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is true that the process had been delayed, said Saurabh Govil, the company\u2019s chief human resources officer. However, he insists that Wipro will not renege on any job offers and that it will honour all such commitments. Wipro has maintained that it will not renege on job offers it has made and will honour all its commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
