{"id":1242836,"date":"2023-02-19T10:03:45","date_gmt":"2023-02-19T04:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1242836"},"modified":"2023-02-19T10:04:18","modified_gmt":"2023-02-19T04:34:18","slug":"amazon-prime-can-acquire-this-mega-ott-platform-from-india-with-30-crore-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/amazon-prime-can-acquire-this-mega-ott-platform-from-india-with-30-crore-users\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Prime Can Acquire This Mega OTT Platform From India With 30 Crore Users!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The American multinational technology company Amazon is reportedly in talks with the Indian internet technology giant Times Internet for the acquisition of the OTT major MX Player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-7-1-1.png\" alt=\"Amazon Prime Can Acquire This Mega OTT Platform From India With 30 Crore Users! \" class=\"wp-image-1243013\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-7-1-1.png 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-7-1-1-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-7-1-1-768x357.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to sources privy to the matter, Amazon is interested in buying one of India\u2019s largest on-demand video streaming services provider MX Player and is already known to be exploring the acquisition deal from Times Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, the Indian digital arm of India\u2019s largest media conglomerate Times Group, Times Internet acquired MX Player in a deal worth $140 million or Rs 1,000 crore, getting hold of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latestly.com\/socially\/technology\/amazon-in-talks-to-acquire-indian-video-giant-mx-player-latest-tweet-by-techcrunch-4823853.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">majority stake<\/a> in the video playback application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources have cited that through the acquisition of MX Player, Amazon is looking to tap deeper into a major overseas market like India, where the entertainment industry is expanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three sources have cited that even though the deliberations of the deal are going on, it may not necessarily materialize into a final offer, a TechCrunch report states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, it is not just the US-based e-commerce giant that is reportedly vouching for acquisition of MX Player but also other strong competitor players, including Zee-Sony, two sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video streaming and video on demand platform MX Player has expanded widely over the years, especially since the OTT players have took a massive hit on the entertainment industry worldwide and in India, encompassing multiple original content pieces and bringing in shows for over 300 million users\/viewers globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason for MX Player\u2019s hype is a wide video catalog that allows its users access to live cable TV channels at no charge whatsoever.
