{"id":1242460,"date":"2023-02-06T10:38:54","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T05:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1242460"},"modified":"2023-02-06T10:39:26","modified_gmt":"2023-02-06T05:09:26","slug":"whatsapp-facebook-users-are-not-mandated-to-accept-new-privacy-policy-advertisements-wont-go-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/whatsapp-facebook-users-are-not-mandated-to-accept-new-privacy-policy-advertisements-wont-go-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Whatsapp, Facebook Users Are Not Mandated To Accept New Privacy Policy; Advertisements Won&#8217;t Go Away!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has recently said in response to a Supreme Court of India order that \u2018there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-9-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Whatsapp, Facebook Users Are Not Mandated To Accept New Privacy Policy; Advertisements Won't Go Away!\" class=\"wp-image-1242465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-9-1.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-9-1-300x140.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Untitled-design-9-1-768x357.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2021, the Government of India had directed the messaging platform company that users who do not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/cities\/delhi-news\/privacy-policy-sc-tells-whatsapp-to-publicise-21-undertaking-to-govt-101675279045756-amp.html?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">comply<\/a> with Whatsapp\u2019s new privacy policy can still continue to use all the functionalities of the company without any hindrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, the apex court directed the American company to give wide publicity in the media about this very move by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Whatsapp and its now parent company, the tech conglomerate Meta Platforms despite agreeing to Supreme Court\u2019s order of issuing advertisements of the same in the newspapers, hace said that \u2018there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world\u2019, meaning that users who wish to use both the social media platforms Facebook as well as Whatsapp, will not be able to do so without cutting advertisements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two companies have even gone as far as stating that if any user wishes to get rid of ads, they will need to stop using Facebook because there is a \u2018limited sharing of information between the two platforms\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme Court order read, \u201cWe further direct that WhatsApp will give publicity of this aspect for the customers of WhatsApp by giving the advertisements in five leading newspapers two times over the next one month. The advertisements will necessarily incorporate the stand taken in its May 2021 letter to the government.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SC bench was led by Justice KM Joseph and comprised justices Ajay Rastogi, Aniruddha Bose, Hrishikesh Roy and CT Ravikumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/tags\/business\/2021\/06\/01\/whatsapp-wont-restrict-any-feature-for-not-accepting-new-privacy-policy-what-does-this-mean\/\">Whatsapp had said that<\/a> it will not be limiting any functionality on its application for (Indian) users who have not complied with its new privacy policy, however it will keep reminding such users to accept the policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the company clarified that it would not limit any functionality of the application to users who haven\u2019t complied with its privacy policy, it did confirm that it will continue to remind users to accept the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the majority of users have already approved our update, no one will lose functionality on May 15 if they haven\u2019t yet and we\u2019ll be sure to provide reminders at a later time\u201d, a company spokesperson had said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has recently said in response to a Supreme Court of India order that \u2018there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world\u2019.
