{"id":1242330,"date":"2023-02-03T09:10:11","date_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1242330"},"modified":"2023-02-03T09:10:45","modified_gmt":"2023-02-03T03:40:45","slug":"34000-drivers-announce-complete-ban-of-uber-ola-rapido-in-this-state-find-out-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/34000-drivers-announce-complete-ban-of-uber-ola-rapido-in-this-state-find-out-why\/","title":{"rendered":"34,000+ Drivers Announce Complete Ban Of Uber, Ola, Rapido In This State: Find Out Why?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Starting February 1 cab aggregators Ola and Uber have discontinued their services in Guwahati, Assam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"997\" height=\"455\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Tax-Cabs-Radio-taxi-service.jpeg\" alt=\"34,000+ Drivers Announce Complete Ban Of Uber, Ola, Rapido In This State: Find Out Why?\" class=\"wp-image-1242355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Tax-Cabs-Radio-taxi-service.jpeg 997w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Tax-Cabs-Radio-taxi-service-300x137.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Tax-Cabs-Radio-taxi-service-768x350.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 997px) 100vw, 997px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The ban will also be imposed on bike aggregator service Rapido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision came into effect after hearing complaints of continuous harassment of the cab drivers by these aggregators in the region..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The action was taken by All Assam Cab Mazdoor Sangha and All Guwahati Bike and Taxi Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former said that the decision was taken due to <a href=\"https:\/\/assamtribune.com\/guwahati\/ola-uber-to-discontinue-services-in-guwahati-from-feb-1-1460164\">excessive <\/a>commission and blocking the accounts of the drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Delayed payment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Ola and Uber have given jobs to many drivers, there has been growing discontent among drivers who have complained about the terms and conditions laid by the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of them is that drivers have to wait for their money if customers pay them through an app wallet offered by the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is because of this reason that these cab, taxi or bike drivers often request people to pay them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/technology\/news\/story\/ola-and-uber-are-shutting-service-in-this-indian-city-from-tomorrow-here-are-details-2328934-2023-02-01\">directly <\/a>in cash or on their UPI ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 18,000 cab drivers and 16,000 Rapido bike riders will stop providing the aggregators\u2019 services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two local cab operators- Pei India and AM2 will be operational in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Union speaks out<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All Assam Cab Mazdoor Sangha general secretary Jyotish Deka said, \u201cOla and Uber started operations in Assam in 2015. In the first year, they gave us good incentives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in later days they started harassment of cab drivers. They started taking 40 to 60 per cent of the commission from cab drivers per trip. This is not reasonable.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, &#8220;They are also taking the dynamic price from us. If we pay such a commission, nothing is left for us. We work for 18-20 hours. We have to pay instalments in the banks and finance companies for loans against vehicles and maintain our family also.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In protests, drivers have urged the government to introduce a new app service for the smooth functioning of their services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rapido\u2019s legal battle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, Rapido said it will stop all its bike-taxi services in Maharashtra after months of legal conflict with the state government in the Bombay high court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The matter had to do with failure to disclose crucial information, including the lack of a licence to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ola defends<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ola claims that the company&#8217;s commission is 20% or less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also said that the partners are paid before 12 noon the very next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said that despite calls for boycott, its services are running seamlessly as it \u2018is not followed by a majority of micro-entrepreneurs who work with Ola across the country\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calls for security for drivers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the major demands of the All Assam Cab Mazdoor Sangha is security for the cab drivers on duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnder the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines 2020, health insurance and provident fund are to be provided to the cab drivers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they are not implementing this clause.
