How Will It Work?\" class=\"wp-image-1241335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-2-9.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-2-9-300x140.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-2-9-768x357.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the company&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RailTel is one of the biggest independent telecom infrastructure providers in India, a Mini Ratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it has provided free public Wi-Fi networks, it aims to reach more than 6108 railway stations throughout every state, city, town, and district in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another goal is for station Wi-Fi plans to improve the online experience for WiFi users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The project&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RailTel and a group managed by 3i Infotech have agreed to a 5-year contract for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The potential for combined revenue is estimated to be in excess of Rs 250 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wi-Fi Monetization Project&#8217;s potential revenue is <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomtalk.info\/3i-infotech-to-deploy-super-app-for-railtel\/642239\/\">estimated <\/a>to reach upwards of Rs 1000 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is getting closer, since over 1.1 million different users log onto its public Wi-Fi network each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea is for 3i Infotech to create and launch a <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomtalk.info\/3i-infotech-to-deploy-super-app-for-railtel\/642239\/\">super <\/a>app for RailTel that will give digital advertisers and marketers the ideal platform to mass-market, local, and hyper-local content or adverts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Super app offers users free high-speed internet access as well as simple access to Indian Railways services and information, as well as value-added services like infotainment, e-commerce, education, and premium content offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It aims to rank among the top in India in terms of users, usage, and time spent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monetization&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It intends to monetise its public Wi-Fi network at 6,108 railway stations across India and records more than 1.1 million unique users per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Monetization Project&#8217;s ambition is to connect &#8220;Bharat&#8221; in its totality and bring about a significant shift in the Indian railways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately it aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/telecomtalk.info\/3i-infotech-to-deploy-super-app-for-railtel\/642239\/\">develop <\/a>a media platform with a measurable and physical footprint across India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this collaborative deal, station Wi-Fi is set to evolve digital experience to users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other members of the consortium are Forensics Intelligence Surveillance and Security Technologies Private Limited (FISST) and Yellow Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is India&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/railways\/railtel-ties-up-with-tech-firm-to-monetise-wi-fi-project-covering-over-6100-stations\/96734101\">first <\/a>multi-year commercial agreement to monetize captive customers of public Wi-Fi network through collaborative efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the contract, the revenue will be generated by monetizing Wi-Fi footfalls in one of the world\u2019s largest integrated public Wi-Fi networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will happen via targeted advertisements and extending multimedia infotainment services for rail passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project is India\u2019s first multi-year commercial agreement to monetize captive customers of public Wi-Fi networks through collaborative efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Revenue<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the contract, 3i Infotech-led consortium will pay \u20b914 crore per year or 40% or 40% of revenue earned (whichever is higher) to RailTel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This revenue will be mostly led by advertising and supported by content\/services-based revenue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/infra.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/railways\/railtel-ties-up-with-tech-firm-to-monetise-wi-fi-project-covering-over-6100-stations\/96734101\">potential <\/a>from the project is expected to be upwards of Rs 250 crore over a five-year period, as per 3i Infotech&#8217;s estimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The consolidated revenue potential from the project is expected to be upwards of \u20b9250 crore over a five-year period, as per 3i Infotech\u2019s estimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Public Wi-Fi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RailTel\u2019s public Wi-Fi network is now available at 6,108 railway stations across India and records more than 1.1 million unique users per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this collaborative deal, station Wi-Fi is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/technology\/railtel-ties-up-with-tech-firm-to-monetise-wi-fi-project-over-6000-stations-101672763793458.html?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">set <\/a>to evolve digital experience to users, the statement said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rail PSU has signed a five-year contract with a consortium led by 3i Infotech Ltd, a global information technology company based at Mumbai, RailTel said.
