No OTP Was Asked Or Shared (Find Out How?)\" class=\"wp-image-1241221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-11-2-1280x720-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-2-1024x576-1.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-11-2-1280x720-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-2-1024x576-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Untitled-design-11-2-1280x720-1-1024x576-1-1024x576-1280x720-2-1024x576-1-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly, this was done by cybercriminals via missed calls!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They fraudulently withdrew Rs 50 lakh by repeatedly giving him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latestly.com\/india\/news\/cyber-fraud-fraudsters-withdraw-rs-50-lakh-from-mans-account-just-by-giving-blank-calls-heres-how-one-of-the-biggest-frauds-in-delhi-happened-4577226.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">missed calls<\/a> on his mobile phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This incident took place on October 19, wherein the victim was bombarded with calls from unknown numbers between 7 pm and 8:45 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While ignoring other calls, he picked up few. A few moments later, when he checked his phone, he was shaking out of stupor as he found transactions worth Rs. 50 lakh through RTGS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Modus Operandi<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A number of RTGS transactions worth over Rs 50 lakh were carried out by some online thugs from the current account of the man\u2019s company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initial inquiry revealed about Rs. 12 lakh were transferred to one Bhaskar Mandal\u2019s account while Rs. 4.6 lakh went to one Avijit Giri. Rs. 10 lakhs went to two separate accounts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SIM Swapping Technique<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Without the need of OTP, this fraud was carried out by the accused using &#8220;SIM Swapping&#8221; technique.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under this technique, fraudsters gain access to the customer\u2019s SIM card or may obtain a duplicate SIM card with the number registered with the customer\u2019s bank account. According to another officer, the fraudsters may have overheard the OTP being mentioned via IVR through a parallel call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reports suggest that masterminds of this fraud might be based in Jharkhand&#8217;s Jamtara.
