{"id":1240760,"date":"2022-12-17T13:04:07","date_gmt":"2022-12-17T07:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1240760"},"modified":"2022-12-17T13:04:45","modified_gmt":"2022-12-17T07:34:45","slug":"indian-railways-has-no-money-for-senior-citizen-concessions-discounted-tickets-not-possible-as-of-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/indian-railways-has-no-money-for-senior-citizen-concessions-discounted-tickets-not-possible-as-of-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Railways Has No Money For Senior Citizen Concessions; Discounted Tickets Not Possible As Of Now?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw might have given a hint that concessions given to the senior citizens in the railways may remain suspended as of now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-3-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"Indian Railways Has No Money For Senior Citizen Concessions; Discounted Tickets Not Possible As Of Now?\" class=\"wp-image-1240803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-3-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-3-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-3-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Untitled-design-8-1280x720-3.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Increasing expenses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that Rs 59,000 crore subsidy for the passenger services were given last year and pension and salary bills of the public transporter are very high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The comments were part of his response to a question by independent MP from Maharashtra Navneet Rana in Lok Sabha on when the concessions given to the senior citizens in train travel will be restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been suspended since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Funds allocation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The earlier mentioned Rs 59,000 crore subsidy for passenger services is a big amount and larger than the annual budget of some states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the annual pension bill of the railways is Rs 60,000 crore, the salary bill is Rs 97,000 crore while Rs 40,000 crore is being spent on fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have given Rs 59,000 passenger subsidy last year, new facilities are coming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If new decisions are to be taken, we will take them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But as of now, everyone should look into the conditions of the railways,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vande Bharat trains<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Replying to another question, Vaishnaw said currently the Vande Bharat trains are running with sitting capacity with a maximum distance of 500 to 550 km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the Vande Bharat trains with sleeping facilities will ply, the trains will cover longer distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Connectivity to and from Ayodhya<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>He also shared that plans are being made which would connect Ayodhya with every nook and corner of the country by trains once the construction of the Ram temple is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The redevelopment of 41 major railway stations is in progress while the rest of the stations will be developed phase-wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Making the Rlwys pollution free<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister said the railways have set a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/india\/subsidy-other-expenses-of-railways-too-high-says-ashwini-vaishnaw-hints-concessions-to-senior-citizens-not-now-9703521.html\/amp?utm_campaign=fullarticle&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=inshorts\">target <\/a>of 2030 to be completely pollution free and work on this is going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes development of hydrogen trains to be designed, developed and made by Indian engineers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw might have given a hint that concessions given to the senior citizens in the railways may remain suspended as of now.
