HCL ME Y2 – HCL’s ICS/3G enabled tablet comes to India

Indian technology giant HCL has launched another Android based tablet in the country called the HCL Me Y2. The company had previously launched the “HCL ME Tab Y1” and the “HCL ME tab U1”.

This tablet by HCL is a treat for those users who always rave for large screen Smartphones. The tablet sports a 7” multi touch capacitive touch screen. The company has tagged the price of this 3G enabled tablet at Rs. 14,999, although it is available at Flipkart for Rs. 14,801.

This Tablet runs on the popular Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and houses a 1 GHz Cortex A9 Processor. It offers a 1 GB DDR Ram and an internal memory of 8 GB. The memory can be upgraded to up to 32 GB by using a microSD card.

At 368 g, the phone is a tad heavier than other competitors in the market. The HCL ME Y2 runs on a Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery to give you a large battery backup that leaves no space for battery failure worries (Even in case of a power outage as recently witnessed!).

However neither of the two cameras of this Smartphone is very good. The primary camera is a 2 MP camera and the front camera is a 0.3 MP camera for video chatting. Despite this, the phone supports HD playback of video at 1080p.

The phone has a USB port, a mini HDMI port for multimedia transmission, a microSD port and has Bluetooth and WI-Fi. However the stand-out feature is the inbuilt 3G connectivity which can be used after putting the Sim card slot available on the tablet.

The phone is supported by a 24×7 integrated backup service. This service is called ‘HCL Touch’ and is a 24 hours one touch service.

This tablet phone also comes preloaded with loads of applications to make life easier. It comes with a three month free subscription to the Hungama App, and also houses applications like BigFlix, LinkedIn, Twitter, Think Free Office Mobile and a 3D weather clock, to name a few.

Users can also download more applications from the ME app store which have over 15,000 applications. But it seems that access to the Google Play store has been disabled in this tablet.

The tablet is available across the country from today in retails stores and also through online portals. The standout features of the phones, according to us, would remain its comparatively larger screen, inbuilt 3G and the ‘HCL Touch’ service – All at relatively competitive price.
