India saw private equity investments worth $10.1 billion in 2011 from 441 PE/VC deals, according to the research firm Venture Intelligence. On the other hand, financial consulting firm Four-S Services Pvt. Ltd. has pegged the sum of these inflows at $11.2 billion from 427 deals during the year.
In 2010, funding from private equity firms stood lower at $8.1 billion from 362 deals. Thus, the tally of last 5 years of private funding has reached $47 billion mark.
Top few Private equity deals, that hogged the limelight in 2011, flowed into Hero Investments, iGate Corporation, SKIL Infrastructure, Welspun Corp and ReNew Wind Power. While Hero Investments garnered the highest share of funding at $848 million from Bain Capital and GIC Special Investments, iGate Corporation bagged $480 million from Apax Partners during the year.
