Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is doing well in the market and so is OnePlus 6. Both the smartphones offer some top of the line features backed by great performing cameras. But they are quite different in terms of their price points.

Both Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and OnePlus 6 comes with some phenomenal specs offering flagship capabilities and performance.

But is it worth spending so much for Samsung Galaxy Note 9, or OnePlus 6 is offering all the things you need in a flagship in an entry-premium price point?

Both these phones are miles apart when it comes to pricing, but actually, offer very similar specs and capabilities.

So, let’s find out who’s doing justice to what you are paying for:

Design & Built

OnePlus 6 comes with a huge full-size built with a notched edge-to-edge display on top with a small chin under. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 offers a no-notch bezel-less curved display with a small forehead and chin and a slot for the S-Pen down under. Both these smartphones come with a complete glass built on the back and front.

However, Galaxy Note 9 comes with an IP68 rating and OnePlus 6 does offer some level of water-resistance but has no official certification.

Display

OnePlus 6 comes with a 6.28-inch AMOLED 19:9 notched display with a screen resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels and a pixel density of 402 PPI. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED 18:5:9 display, but with higher resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels and a density of 516 PPI.

Both have crisp displays, but Galaxy Note 9 has higher resolution, while OnePlus 6 has a notched display with more screen space.

Hardware

Both the devices offer similar performance in term of gaming and multitasking. OnePlus 6 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, while Galaxy Note 9 has Exynos 9810 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, the same SD 845 alternative.

Note 9 packs in a new water-cooling system which helps the processor to optimize better in terms of hardcore gaming.

Storage

Galaxy Note 9 has launched a new 512GB variant apart from a standard 128GB version. OnePlus 6 has three storage options available: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The memory on the OnePlus 6 cannot be expanded further with an external support.

Though, on Galaxy Note 9 you can expand the memory further with an external Micro SD card.

Software

OnePlus 6 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 both come with Android software on top where OnePlus 6 offers a stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo with very light customizations of Oxygen OS. While Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes to an edited version of the latest Android offering a Samsung Experience skin on top of it.

OnePlus 6 offers a stock experience with very fewer tweaks and customizations. Also, you will get faster updates and software upgrades on OP6.

Camera

Both the smartphones come with rear dual cameras. OnePlus 6 has a 16 megapixel primary shooter coupled with a 20 megapixel f/1.7 OIS enabled secondary shooter with a 16 megapixels f/2.0 shooter upfront. However, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has two 12 megapixel cameras with a variable aperture of f/1.5 to 2.4 backed by optical image stabilization.

Up front, Note 9 has an 8-megapixel f/1.7 shooter. OnePlus 6 does offer great camera performance, but Samsung Galaxy Note 9 does a better job in terms of overall photography.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has a 4,000mAh battery supporting wireless and fast charging. While OnePlus 6 has a 3,300mAh supporting OnePlus’ Dash Charge fast charging technology, but no wireless charging.

Price

OnePlus 6 starts at a price of Rs 34,999 while the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 currently is available at a starting price of Rs 67,900. The top variant of OnePlus 6 with 256GB storage costs Rs 43,999 and the Galaxy Note 9 top variant with 512GB storage costs Rs 84,900.

To start with, a major differentiator in both the devices is the S Pen. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with the Samsung S Pen stylus with which you can write or draw while OnePlus 6 has no such feature. In terms of camera and performance, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is way ahead of OnePlus 6, but OnePlus 6 offers excellent performance and value-for-money propositions at its price.

If you can spend a lot, choosing Samsung Galaxy Note 9 over other higher priced flagships is not a bad idea. But if you want a decent entry-premium smartphone with flagship specs, OnePlus 6 is an excellent option to go with.
