Huawei Beats Apple – Becomes Second Largest Smartphone Maker

Chinese technology major Huawei has beaten the number one tech company in the world, Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone seller. Just behind South Korean giant Samsung, Huawei in the second quarter has beaten Apple to snatch the second spot.

This is for the first time in last seven years any company has been able to break into the top two, other than Samsung and Apple.

Huawei is the largest smartphone maker in China with a massive growing market in European countries and other continents. Huawei recently entered into the top five smartphone brands in the country by beating Lenovo and Motorola with its sub-brand Honor.

Q2 Reports: 350+ Million Smartphones Sold Worldwide

Over 350 million smartphones were sold worldwide in the last quarter. If compared to last year, the overall sales are down by 2 percent YoY. The growing markets are reaching saturation levels with increased prices and lesser variations. One of the main reasons behind lesser sales considered is lack of innovation with feature and design.

In the current years, all smartphone companies offer almost a similar set of features with nothing to distinguish between them.

Samsung has topped the list, but are down by 10 percent in selling smartphones YoY. The company sold 71.9 million smartphones globally for a 20 percent market share. Huawei is on the second spot with 54.2 million phones, up by 41 percent with a 15 percent market share.

Apple stands on the third with 41.3 million iPhones, up by 1 percent for a 12 percent market share worldwide.

Coming to India’s top brand Xiaomi, the Chinese company managed to take up 9 percent of the total market with a 112 percent growth in smartphone sales in India.
