In the broadband segment, which had been BSNL’s forte since long, they have announced ‘India’s cheapest broadband plan’, as per their own admission.

Meanwhile to get ahead of Jio in Internet over WiFi niche, BSNL has announced ‘Wings’, their new service which competes against Jio.

Can we witness BSNL’s rise as a tough competitor to Jio and Airtel, Vodafone?

BSNL’s Broadband Plans: Rs 0.83/ GB Offering!

BSNL has described their new broadband plans as ‘most economic’, which has been clearly launched to counter Jio’s GigaFiber plans.

In the new broadband plan, users can now get 20 GB per day for a month at just Rs 491. This will mean 600 GB for Rs 491, which turns out Rs 0.83 per GB.

However, compared to 100 Mbps speed of Jio, here BSNL users can only get 20 Mbps speed.

NK Mehta, a member on BSNL’s board, said, “BSNL is committed to offer high quality, most affordable and data services which meets everyone’s expectations.”

Unlimited calls to any network is already included in the plan.

BSNL has already announced their new FTTH or Fiber to the Home plan earlier, which also takes on Jio’s FTTH offering heads-on: Rs 777 plan in which users can get 500 GB per month and get 50 Mbps speed; and Rs 1277 plan in which users can get 750 GB at 100 Mbps speed per month.

Pricing details of Jio’s GigaFiber is not out yet, but as per earlier reports, they can offer upto 1.1 TB per month at 100 Mbps speed. Rs 500 is said to be the entry level tariff  for Jio’s GigaFiber.

BSNL’s ‘Wings’ Will Be Launched Soon

Meanwhile as Jio announced that they will soon start their Voice over Internet services, BSNL too has announced the launch of their own Voice over Internet service called Wings.

Inorder to use this, BSNL users will be pay Rs 1099 as one-time activation fee, after which they will need to install an app on their laptop/smartphone/tablet.

Once that happens, BSNL users can use any WIFi network from any telecom operator, and use WiFi to make any call to any network for a year for free.

Users can also opt for BSNL’s CLIP device or get their own such device, and avoid paying Rs 1099 as one time activation fee. In that case, they will need to purchase a Rs 200 plan per month, in which they can make unlimited domestic calls to any network for a month.
