Android Global Market

Android covers around 90 percent of all the smartphones in the world. The Google-owned operating system dominates the app app market with a 85 percent share. If compared, Apple only has a 15 percent share for its iOS ecosystem.

Due to Android’s mass availability and much lower retail price, there are many more Android users compared to iOS.

iOS vs Android – Total App Downloads

Coming to the total number of apps downloaded, iOS represent 30 percent of all total number of app downloads and Android has a 70 percent market share, according to App Annie. The huge market and mass availability has helped Google’s Android to reach out to such a wider user base around the world.

Almost 90 percent of all the smartphone users in the world use Android with one of the most downloaded apps.

Though, when it comes to app users and consumers spending on apps, they are more likely to spend money or buy an app or make an in-app purchases via iOS to Google, 66 percent to 34% percent.

Currently, the top app market remains United States which had 40 billion total downloads in 2017, followed by China with 39 billion downloads. In terms of usage, France tops the list with an average of 114 apps per phone.
