FIFA 2018 Triggers Telco War In India – Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone Launch Special FIFA Offers!

The master disruptor of the telecom industry, Reliance Jio, has knowingly or unknowingly triggered a new level of telecom war in India; and this time, it is FIFA 2018 World Cup which is the catalyst.

Yesterday after Jio offered free streaming of all this year’s world cup matches for their users, Airtel too has announced free streaming, not only in English but in regional languages as well.

Meanwhile, BSNL and Vodafone too have jumped in, and have announced special recharges and tariffs for football lovers.

Airtel: Watch FIFA 2018 For Free!

Directly responding to Jio’s offer of free FIFA 2018 streaming, Airtel too has launched their free streaming offer.

Airtel TV users will need to update their app and get a newer version of the app in Android and iOS to watch FIFA 2018 for free. The streaming will happen in the English language, as well as regional languages like Hindi and Tamil.

Airtel TV is anyways free for all Airtel users till December 2018. In the month of January and February, Airtel TV was the most downloaded on-demand entertainment app.

Sameer Batra, CEO – Content and Apps, Bharti Airtel said,

“While T20 cricket tournament received great feedback from our users, we are confident of recreating the same magic with the upcoming football extravaganza as well. We are delighted that the Airtel TV app is fast becoming the go-to destination for sports lovers in India.”

There are approximately 100 million viewers, who would be watching FIFA 2018, which is starting from tomorrow.

BSNL: Special FIFA 2018 Recharges

Meanwhile not to be outdone, state carrier BSNL has announced special data packs, which will give users 4GB per day.

Bandhan Preet Singh, who claims to be BSNL executive tweeted a plan, which stated that any BSNL user can recharge their account with Rs 149 to get 4GB per day plan.

This data can be used to watch live streaming of this year’s football world cup matches.

Interestingly, this plan will not have free calls or SMS and is not valid in Mumbai and Delhi. The validity of this plan is between June 14th to July 15th, the days when FIFA 2018 will take place.

During IPL as well, BSNL had launched special data packs which gave 1.5 GB per day for Rs 98.

Vodafone: Special Contests for FIFA 2018

Vodafone too has jumped on the bandwagon and launched special contests for FIFA 2018.

Contestants can win free iPad Mini, along with a bumper prize of Rs 1 lakh travel vouchers. The users will need to guess the winners of the football matches.
