WhatsApp Group Video Calling Rolls Out; Did You Get This New Feature?

WhatsApp, world’s biggest messenger with 1.5 billion monthly users, is now all set to unleash their newest feature: Video group calling.

WhatsApp Video Calling Feature Is Here!

Leading blog on WhatsApp centric updates, WABetaInfo, in a series of tweets, announced that WhatsApp’s group video calling feature is now available to some users.

Using this, any WhatsApp user can connect with 4 contacts at the same time, and conduct video calling like a conference video call.

Which Versions Will Have This?

As per the tweets shared by them, Android users who have version 2.18.145+ and iOS users who have version 2.18.52 or higher can now get this exciting new feature.

But, you have to be lucky to get this feature now, because not every user is able to access this.

When Was This Planned?

Way back in 2017, we had already predicted that WhatsApp’s video calling feature for groups is about to be launched, and this has been now confirmed.

Interestingly, during their annual F8 Developer Conference in San Jose, California, Facebook had confirmed that WhatsApp will have video group calling feature.

During the same event, Facebook had also announced that a similar group video calling feature shall be launched for Instagram as well.

Who Else Has This Feature?

Facebook messenger already had group video calling feature since 2016; and Snapchat too has it, and they support 16 participants in a single go.

Google Hangouts and Skype are the other major messengers which already provide this feature.

In case you are an Android user and already have version no. 2.18.145+ version of WhatsApp, and iOS users who have version no. 2.18.52, then you can follow these steps to confirm whether your WhatsApp supports group video chat/calls or not:

  • Step 1: Open WhatsApp, and select a contact.
  • Step 2: Place a normal video call to that contact.
  • Step 3: Once he or she picks the call, then see if the screen has “Add participant” option or not.
  • Step 4: Add upto 4 participants, and start group video chat/call seamlessly.

In case “Add participant” button is not visible, then you will need to wait, as Whatsapp is right now in the process of rolling out this feature to everybody.
